updating not working

Recommended Posts

hey i just got this program a few weeks ago & i really like it but now it seem it wont update. A few days ago i went to update it & it just said 'the database was sucessfully updated form version xxxx to xxxx' but the xxxx's where the same version like for instance it went from lets say 1640 to 1640 or whatever. So i downloaded the manual update & tried again & it still said that. I had to actually redownload the program & install it again & then it seemed to work saying 'you currently have the newest update' (or something like that)

Now today i went to update it again & it did the same thing. It said 'the database was sucessfully updated from xxxx to xxxx' & it was the same version again. So i just downloaded the manual update & tried updating it AGAIN & it still said 'the database was sucessfully updated from 1714 to 1714'. I dont even know if that's the newest one because it's not saying 'you have the newest updates'.. It seems like anytime i want to update i have to re-install the program for some reason..

any ideas whats going on here? Any idea how to fix this?

Im sure i dont have a virus or spyware or malware or anything because i also have SAS, Clamwin, Avira, Dr. WebCureiT & PrevX & they havnt found anything.

Thanks

Hey, this is my system

Windows XP professional SP2

Hello rileymackdawg,

You will need to show hidden files in XP. Follow the directions here.

Now download the latest database from GT500.org and save the file to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

You will need to delete the rules.ref file at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. After deleting the file then double click on mbam-rules.exe and run setup but close folder when running. Now try updating MalwareBytes manually. You may have to upate twice. The latest database is 1736.

This should resolve your problem.

sweet. I got it working now. It was because i dont run my account in the admin account, so i had to use the 'runas' thing & now it updates. thanks hardhead, it was your directions that made me think of that because of the hidden files.

That makes sense, you have to have admin rights to be able to write to that folder because it's under "all users".
