Scan incredibly slow, but not frozen

Recommended Posts

I have Malwarebytes Pro, and the updating (scheduled and manual) and scheduled scans seem to work just fine. However, when I manually run a scan, it is incredibly slow. So slow, in fact, that I cannot navigate through the Malwarebytes program at all during the scan. The elapsed time, number of files scanned, and all other information do not change in real time. Instead, they catch up every now and then. If I click in the window, it fades and says "not responding" at the top for a while until it finally updates the window with present information about the scan. Full system scans, which used to take about eight hours, now take days.

I am running a 2009 Dell Studio with Windows7 32 bit. My other AV program is avast!, and I have set all the recommended exclusions for both programs to ensure that they do not interfere with each other. avast! seems to be running fine, and it has never indicated that it was messing with Malwarebytes at all.

Hi -

This is way beyond normal scan times. Quick scans usually take me less than 5 mins, and a Full scan is 40 mins maximum -

Follow these procedures as outlined below to uninstall and reinstall your copy of Malwarebytes Anti-malware

•Download and run this utility > mbam-clean.exe

•It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

•After the computer restarts, Temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from > here

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications.

If this still continues, please post back -

Thank You -

Full Scan time - Time elapsed: 35 minute(s), 8 second(s)

Quick Scan time - Time elapsed: 3 minute(s), 36 second(s)

These are from my recent scan logs on my XP - My Windows7 Home Premium times are similar -

I also run Defrag and run Disk Cleanup (from System Tools) on a regular (weekly) basis -

These times can be altered / extended on a computer that is heavily laden with many programs.

However a Full Scan should not take over a few hours at the most, and a Quick Scan should not take much more than 10 mins -
