Need advice-all scans come up clean

Recommended Posts

i have an HP laptop with Nod32 5.0 (not Smart Security) and also Malwarebytes free. A few days ago the Malwarebytes would not update. I received error message about missing or corrupted files. I have since learned that a system restore in safe mode was completed prior to the problem with updates. I ran mbam-clean then did a reinstall day before yesterday. Today I found out that someone attempted to use my credit card on two websites on the same day I installed Malwarebytes again but the card declined the charges because they were "suspicious". I have run a Nod32 scan and nothing was found. I have run Malwarebytes in safe mode with networking and found nothing. Should I be concerned that I have an undetected trojan or other malware? With the exception of the Malwarebytes update issues, everything else seems to be running smoothly. Am I reading something into nothing since all scans are ok?

I have Windows Defender but it is does not run in real time.

Thanks for any advice.

Hello toodle,

If there are no other symptoms on your computer such as issues running the internet, slowness, freezing, pop-up adds, being redirected when surfing, or other issues I do not believe you are infected. There are numerious ways to gain your credit card information outside of an infection on your PC. With that said, if you think you are infected, here are the steps needed to get your computer cleaned....

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

Don't use any temporary file cleaners unless requested - this can cause data loss and make recovery difficult
