HELP: Malwarebytes Update Download Included a Virus

Recommended Posts

Today I clicked on my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Update tab. Nearly as soon as the Update download commenced, my Trend Micro anti-virus program stopped the download with a flag stating: Virus Found. Stupidly, I clicked the Update seven times thus receiving seven Trend Micro virus warnings. I cancelled the download.

In my Trend Micro Quarantine File I now have seven .tmp files listed under File Location being:

c:\Program Files\Malwarebutes'Anti-Malware\

Under Name, I have seven files which I am unable to clean as follows:

is-NU2C6.tmp

is-GKAEC.tmp

is-FFME2.tmp

is-EKORI.tmp

is-AN79H.tmp

is-8KN3O.tmp

is-2VRC.tmp

Can anyone explain what happened and what I shoud do?

Thank you for your quick response. I am new to both Malwarebytes and your forum, and I am not a technician. Originally, I did not relate the recent similar problems to my problem. I have now deleted the quarantined .tmp files, but discovered a mbam-dor.exe file has also been quarantined. Being an .exe file, would the correct action be to restore that file?

Also, should I turn off my Trend Micro virus program prior to either updating or running a Malwarebytes' scan?

mbam-dor.exe is the file that TrendMicro is producing the main false positive on. You should restore it, as it is the Delete On Reboot program that is part of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

The temp files only matter while MBAM is updating, so you can allow Trend to delete them for now. Just don't let it delete or quarantine them while MBAM is trying to update.

Also, should I turn off my Trend Micro virus program prior to either updating or running a Malwarebytes' scan?

The scan will go faster if TrendMicro is off while scanning, but otherwise it shouldn't cause a problem as long as they clear up the false positive issues.
