help! Trojan.Downloader broke MBAM

-dW

Recommended Posts

Using Malwarebytes AM 1.33 in quick scan mode. The program completed the scan and detected trojan.downloader on my system. It was the only item identified during the scan.

I clicked the button to remove selected items and the program became unresponsive and Windows (vista-32 SP1) shut it down. Ever since then MBAM continues to scan successfully and has identified the same 12 Adware.Agent files whether in quick scan or full scan modes and when I click to remove selected items, the program reports that it has stopped working and windows shuts it down with the following entry in the Windows Application Log;

Log Name: Application

Source: Application Error

Date: 1/28/2009 11:11:03 AM

Event ID: 1000

Task Category: (100)

Level: Error

Keywords: Classic

Description:

Faulting application mbam.exe, version 1.33.0.0, time stamp 0x496e62ee, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x6d782e30, process id 0x16e8, application start time 0x01c9816221a975ec.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application and also ran it in safe mode and it consistently faults when attempting to clean what it found.

So I'm first of all hoping for some advice how to repair MBAM, and second, how to verify whether or not it was successful removing trojan.downloader

Here is my HT log;

Please see if you can run the following tool.

Please download this, place a blank CD in your burner and double-click on the downloaded file. It will automatically burn the CD for you.

At the bottom left should be 2 flags. If you use your mouse and click on the British flag the interface should switch to English for you.

Have it scan ALL files. There is no way that I'm aware of to save a log, so you may need to write down any special errors or infections found and their outcome.

Requires access to a working computer with a CD/DVD burner to create a bootable CD.

    Avira AntiVir Rescue System
    Avira AntiVir Rescue System is a Linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore. Thus it is possible to:

  • repair a damaged system,
  • rescue data,

  • scan the system for virus infections.

    Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD. You can then use this CD/DVD to boot your computer.
    The Avira AntiVir Rescue System is updated several times a day so that the most recent security updates are always available.
