when I start up my computer after a total shutdown, as my tray icons start popping up in the bottom right hand toolbar, malwarebytes tray icon doesn't come on for quite awhile, usually not until I have accessed my browser. My microsoft security essenstials comes on immediately. I have been told not to run 2 AV programs simultaneously, but after confering with malwarebytes tech support, I have exempted the suggested processes from both AV programs so that they won't conflict with each other. I like running 2 AV programs, as once in awhile one catches something that the other one misses.

Am I protected while the malwarebytes tray icon isn't showing, and what may be the cause of the slow loading tray Icon?

For Windows Vista and Windows 7 this is normal. On these operating systems Malwarebytes Realtime Protection is on a delayed startup and does not load immediately but should appear a few to several seconds after other tray icons load.

Thank you for the info. It takes more than a few seconds however, sometimes up to a minute or so. Could this be due to having many start up processes running at once, and should I just wait until the icon shows up before getting online? I am running windows 7 home premium.

Yes, it's normal for it to take a minute or more to start. It's because of the fact that by default, on Vista and 7, our service (MBAMService) is set to run Automatic (Delayed Start) instead of simply Automatic. You may change this if you wish and if it doesn't work well that way, you can always change it back.

To change it, refer to item 17 of the FAQ.

Also note that Malwarebytes' is not an antivirus. It is an antimalware and focuses on being a complementary solution and not a full fledged product. MBAM catches threats that commonly slip past av's and is vastly different in design compared to an av and cannot be considered one.

Hi,

With all due respect, don't you think this is a major drowback of MBAM? In the first minute after boot most of users (if not all) will go straight to email and internet , being exposed to outside threats.

All other security softwares are designed to start as soon as possible, sometimes even before the resident OS and even on kernel level to be the first exposed to any possible threat .

Not the best aproach....

Thanks,

Claudiu

If you don't like the product then don't use it. Simple as that. We are not forcing you to use it. There is no point trolling the forum.

Hi Buttons,

Not exactly the answer expected from one of "Honorary Members "......

Is not if I like it or not , is about what is right and what is wrong...

Thanks,

Claudiu

No, but some of us I'm sure are getting tired of your negative comments. All your doing is making yourself look bad by finding and commenting negative on anything you find and starting support requests and not replying to a single one. If you ask me the definition of a troll fits you nicely. Rather then posting on someone's forum and making a mess and causing headaches why don't you create your own forum where you can do as you please.

I'm not replying anymore, but this is just my two cents.

Hello claudiubotezatu,

A major drawback of starting two protection services at once can cause a potential conflict and will cause a system to freeze. Which is a far larger drawback if you cannot use your system on each boot.

If you wish to leave that minute protected then set the service to start automatic from automatic (delayed).

Are there any other questions you wish to be answered?

Thank you.

Claudiu,

As mentioned above Malwarebytes is designed to compliment your resident anti-virus software. Starting both AV protection and Malwarebytes protection at the same time can sometimes cause a bottleneck like Mainard mentioned. For this reason we have the Malwarebytes Realtime Protection set to Automatic(delayed).

If you need instructions on how to switch this to Automatic so there is no delay then please send me a PM.

You definitely have a valid point. This is something that I have been considering for some time as well. We may change this behavior in the future, but if we decide to do so, it will only be after extensive compatibility testing to make certain that it is stable and safe and doesn't cause conflicts or issues with other security software.
