Terminating the "mbamservice.exe" process

Recommended Posts

I am running "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" (PRO) on a "MS Windows XP Home 32-bit SP3" computer.

Despite no running scans, "mbamservice.exe" still occupies 100 MB of my 2 GB RAM even after closing the so-called module in the taskbar.

Memory concerns prompted me to attempt ending the process tree of "mbamservice.exe" from Windows Task Manager. The computer freezes. After a hard reboot, I tried just terminating the individual process. The computer freezes again.

Is there a way to terminate "mbamservice.exe" and reclaim those 100 MB without disturbing the computer ?

Thank You.

Greetings :)

Unfortunately it isn't safe to terminate MBAMService once it is loaded because it runs in kernel mode, that's why you see the system freeze occur, because the system becomes unstable when terminating such processes.

The only safe way to stop the service would be to set the protection module not to start with Windows in the Protection tab and then restarting your PC. The service will still run for the sake of scheduled updates and scheduled scans, but it won't use any CPU and will use a very small amount of memory (far less than it uses once the protection module has been loaded).
