Ping downloading like crazy...

Recommended Posts

A few night ago my parents complained of slow internet so I looked at their usage meter and sure enough they were capped. Which was strange. two 45+ year old people on a 50GB plan and they've capped it? Anyway, their plan reset last night and they called me again to say it was going slow but only every now and then this time. I asked them to install NetLimiter and tell me which process was downloading the most and it turned out to be ping.exe..... Upon asking them to go into task manager and kill the process they were adamant that there was nothing in the list called ping.exe. I asked them to read off all the processes that were running and they all checked out (apart from the svchost s which was too hard for me to explain to them >.>) so we went through the installed programs and installed a heap of stuff (looking in that list is like looking back in time..) then deleted a heap of temp files, program files and the likes that were no longer needed. then finally i asked them to restart the computer, pull out the ethernet cable and then do a full scan of their system with their AV after updating it (CA). the only results to come back were a few (read, MANY) dozen tracking cookies. I've asked them to install malwarebytes to be sure but im waiting on results at the moment.

Anyone have any idea what would cause ping to do this? It's recieving all it's traffic from port 80 and it's uploading next to nothing; not sure if that helps...

Logs will be closed if you haven't replied within 3 days

Please don't attach the scans / logs for these tools, use "copy/paste".

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Please run a new MBAM scan being sure to update before scanning.

Post the scan results

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
