Hi-speed usb 2.0 port

Recommended Posts

Well sometimes when I connect a usb to any usb port, it says "this device can run faster blah blah blah" and something about hi-speed usb 2.0.

So how do I know if I have usb 2.0 or 1.0? And if I have usb 2.0 port, do I have to download some hi-speed usb 2.0 controller?

Is all usb 2.0 ports can be hi-speed?

I don't really know a lot about usb ports, so any help would be appreciated. :D

You will know if you have USB 2.0 ports if you see "Enhanced host controller" in Device Manager as in the attached.

The OS will Plug 'n Play the correct USB v1.x vs. v2.0 drivers.

If you connect a USB v2.0 capable device and you get a Pop-Up indicating "this device can run faster..." then it is connected to a USB v1.x port.

The options are limited. You can't make a v1.x USB port into a USB v2.0 port.

If is is a desktop you could install a multi-port USB v2.0 PCI controller.

If is is a notebook with PCMCIA, you could install a multi-port USB v2.0 PCMCIA controller.
