What happened to my MalwareBytes icon?

I'm running Vista 64, and after I updated MalwareBytes today I noticed that the icon had reverted to just being that of an unidentified file. I've attached a screenshot.

Why did this happen? How can I get the real icon back?

It runs malwarebytes.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the program to see if I could get the icon back, but no dice.

Could just be Windows being cantankerous. Sometimes clicking in the background and pressing F5 will help.

You can also right-click on the icon, go to properties, and under the 'Shortcut' tab click "Change Icon". Just point it to C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

That's the weird thing, though. I see the icon in the shortcut tab, but applying it doesn't seem to do anything.

Here's what I see when I go do the MalwareBytes Directory. Notice how the mbam.exe also has lost its icon, but when I go into its properties panel the icon seems to be there.

It could be a problem with the Windows Icon Cache. It can cause these types of problems (especially with shortcuts). You can run Ccleaner with the clear icon cache option checked and then reboot and it should fix it.

Thanks for stepping in with the answer there exile360. I don't use Ccleaner, so I was not aware that it had that feature.

Yup, I've run into it before. You can delete the cache manually in Windows, but Ccleaner simplifies things a lot, and it's handy for getting rid of all those other useless temp files as well.

I think I usually just turn of icon caching when it happens, but I've only seen it once or twice.
