Buying new laptop

Recommended Posts

I trust this is the right place to ask my question. I bought Malwareytes close to a year ago. I downloaded it and then ordered the disk at the same time. I will soon receive my new laptop. I'm currently using a desktop computer. I plan to build a new computer in a few months. I'll probably convert this desktop to a server with Windows Home Server 2011. Do I need to buy a copy of Malwarebytes for each machine? I imagine so. When I install Windows Home Server 2011 in this machine, it will wipe the drive clean of all information. Can I use the disk to install back to this machine? Thank you for your reply.

Hi and welcome, FalvinP:

Do I need to buy a copy of Malwarebytes for each machine? I imagine so.

Yes.

Consumer licenses are "lifetime", but may only be used on 1 computer per license at a time.

You may move/transfer the license from 1 rig to another by uninstalling it and running the mbam-clean.exe tool on the "old" system, and then using that same key to register the MBAM PRO on the "new" computer.

So each rig needs its own MBAM PRO license ID and key (if you purchase multiple licenses at once, there is a discount).

mbam-clean.exe can be downloaded from HERE and be sure to reboot after running it.

Can I use the disk to install back to this machine?

Yes, but there is no need to use the disk, which will contain an older, outdated version of the program.

Instead, just have your license and ID key handy and then follow the instructions below to reinstall on the SAME computer:

  • If you are running MBAM PRO, please be sure you have your license ID and key available (sent via email at the time of online purchase, or in the box).
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from HERE.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE.
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to reactivate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs HERE, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
