Possible Infection

Recommended Posts

Ok, thanks, also it's anyone else getting C Cleaner being infected as well..

Sorry, but I don't use Avast!.

So, I don't know.

However, these are False Positives by Avast!, so it would be best to report them to the Avast! folks.

Here is the link to the support page: http://www.avast.com/support

(The more folks who do so, the sooner it will be fixed ;) .)

Hi, caritas:

The download version of the program is the same for FREE and PRO.

You'll just need to use your license ID and key to register the PRO version after you install it. That will activate/enable the PRO features.

Please follow the steps below (and let us know if you need help with the last step, about setting the exclusions between MBAM and Avast!):

  • If you are running MBAM PRO, please be sure you have your license ID and key available (sent via email at the time of online purchase, or in the box).
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from HERE.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE.
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to reactivate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs here, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Hi, caritas:

1) Was everything working OK with MBAM PRO BEFORE the Avast! False Positive incident this morning?

2) And did you run the MBAM-clean tool, and then REBOOT & pause Avast! before trying to reinstall MBAM?

If you have a valid license ID and key, and if everything was working prior to this little mishap, then following the steps I described (including the 2 reboots) SHOULD get you back up and running.

Also, please make sure you enter your ID and key info correctly, of course. ;)

If this doesn't work, then we'll likely need to wait for one of the experts to stop by......... :)

3) EDIT: It looks as if you were already working with orubio in this topic, b/c of updating issues? And you had some other issues before that, here?

So, I guess I might ask if your posting today in THIS thread is because you are experiencing the same FP issue with Avast!, or are you still experiencing other, prior, unlrelated issues (since it's not clear from your other topics if those issues were resolved or not)?

Let us know,

Thanks for the update, caritas.

I'm still a bit confused -- was MBAM PRO (including the updating) working properly BEFORE today?

Reason I ask is that, 1) you seem to be experiencing (unresolved?) issues in addition to the Avast! FP, and 2) if a completely clean MBAM reinstall did not get you back up and running, then it would suggest there might be other problems.

(The Avast! FP detection seems to be resolved for the other members who reported it.)

Until one of the MBAM staffers arrives, perhaps it might be a good idea to provide a bit more info about your system.

That way, the experts can better assist you.

If so, then please follow the instructions below:

Download DDS from here: dds.scr or here: dds.com and save it to your desktop.

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool, on Vista or Win 7 right click and select Run as administrator

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Thanks very much for your patience,

Thanks, caritas.

We'll need to wait for an expert to review your logs.

Also, it's likely they will split this off to a new, separate topic (or merge it with one of your other, open topics), as it seems to be different from the OP's issue regarding only the Avast! FP. ;)

Thanks for your patience,
