New version making xp sluggish 1.60.0.61

Recommended Posts

Hey

just installed yesturday and this version (free) is making my pc sluggish,I removed version 1.51.2.1300 and used the cleanup tool-was getting the load database error, tried the delete rules.ref but still kept getting the errors-my quistion on that is should I reinstall the old version and will the updates work in that version and if yes for how long? This new version is again making my PC act funny-I did not start the trial of the full version and do not wish to- I use XP Home SP2 (I will not install service pack 3) just so you know.

any Ideas from you smart people? Not that I am stupid just odd (HeeHee)

The free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware does not run at startup, so it is unlikely (unless you're actually running a scan at the time with Malwarebytes) that it could make your PC sluggish.

As for updating the database with an old version, yes you can, however older versions do not have the same detection and removal capabilities as newer versions, so even with the latest definitions, there are many infections that older product versions will be incapable of detecting or removing.
