EEK! Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys - first off - this forum kicks ***. All of you could be getting paid to do this, yet you do it for free. Very cool.

Ok, down to business and any help would be appreciated.

Situation:

Fixing gf's sons' computer. Its a Dell laptop (model?) with XP Home installed. He installed tons of Pokemon programs or something similar on it. I've managed to get rid of all of the pop ups, but most of the problems still persist:

- internet will stop responding mid-way through surfing

- SuperAntiSpyware gives me an error when trying to install - I used a flash drive from my computer to his to transfer the files.

- When I hooked his computer up to my network, MY computer's internet wouldn't work in addition to his.

- I have run CCleaner and AVG and Ad-Aware 08 and AVG found a few trojans, but only put them in the quarantine box.

- I was fortunately able to install Avira as well, but it didn't find anything! Amazing considering the computer is still quite infected.

- I successfully installed Webroots SpySweeper, but when I try to run it nothing happens. Same as with Spybot, ComboFix and SuperAntiSpyware.

- Everytime I try to update the programs virus/spyware databases, it tells me "failed internet connection" so obviously its screwing with the DNS.

- VERY similar to this problem: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9570

- Every now and again, there will be a redirect script on IE and will redirect me to yet another spyware site which is bogus.

- I have run Hijack this on his computer and there are in fact some issues. Trying to figure out which issues those are. Let me get a copy of it from his computer and post it.

- In CCleaner, there are tonsssssss of ActiveX/COM reg issues that it finds. Upon running it again, they are gone so thats good.

I have read and re-read all of your logs and still having some issues. Any help would very much be appreciated :)

Joshua - see below for Hijack This log. THANKS!

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading ComboFix to your
DESKTOP
:
how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

NOTE!!:

You must save and run
ComboFix.exe
on your DESKTOP and not from any other folder.

Also,
DO NOT
click the mouse or launch any other applications while this is running or it may stall the program

Additional links to download the tool:

Note:

The
Windows Recovery Console
will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Click
    Yes
to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

  • Please post the
    C:\ComboFix.txt
    along with a
    new HijackThis log
so we may continue cleaning the system.
