Hi there

I have a weird problem with malwarebytes on my friends PC.

It's running Windows XP SP3, and is up to date with MS updates.

The symptoms are I can start mbam.exe, task manager shows it as running, but then it exits silently before any GUI appears, it works fine on my PC.

I've completely removed it and reinstalled using a fresh download, the installer runs ok and even does an immediate update if I ask for it, but mbam again runs for a second or two then exits.

I've worked through the FAQ and nothing there seems to solve the issue.

I've even tried copying the contents of the malwarebytes folder from my PC to the other PC using a flash drive and running mbam.exe directly and I get the same result.

I've got AVG free 2012 running quite happily, as well as Spybot 1.6.2 both up to date, running ok and not finding any infections on scans.

I've downloaded and run the dds.scr program and they are in the attached zip file

The PC seems to be working fine apart from this issue.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Update on this, I found that whenever I ran malwarebytes Drwatson ran as well, so I checked the log file and it seems to be getting an access violation, this only gets reported to DrWatson and nowhere else, no popups nothing in the event log, nada

I've attached the DrWatson log hopefully that will help

I've a nasty feeling this is going to mean a reinstall

:welcome:

Please do the following to see if it resolves the issue: Post back and let us know please

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
