Can't run D.D.S file

Recommended Posts

The short version is that I know the forum rules/regs require me to post a log file from the dds.scr program, but I cannot do so because when I run the file it gets about 3/4 of the way through the scan (as measured by the "hashtag" bar) and then the computer freezes and I have to restart. More details below.

My wife's computer was infected (posting from mine now) with the Windows XP Security malware/virus. I first ran the RKill program, and then ran the MalwareBytes software. The popups no longer occur, but I have encountered a few follow-up problems:

  1. At first, I could not turn on the Windows automatic updates. I ran the fix using Start > Run > regsvr32 wuaueng.dll, which fixed that problem.
    • I then ran a full scan from Malwarebytes, which said that there was nothing wrong with the computer

[*]Now, I get pop-ups from Malwarebytes saying that it is blocking potentially malicious IP addresses (they are outgoing). These popups occur approximately every 6 - 15 seconds and almost all from the same IP address (208.somethingorother)

  • I ran RKill again, which seems to have resolved the popup issue

[*]Now, the computer is running INTERMINABLY slow. It never was setting any speed records, but now it is painful.

I don't know if the original problem was resolved or not; the lack of popups indicates yes but the running speed indicates maybe not. In any case, I want to see if I can get some help here with ensuring it is fixed...

Only now I can't run the program I need to get a logfile, probably due to the speed. Please help!

Welcome to the forum, see if you can do any of this:

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

  • Make sure the following options are checked:

    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center
    • Windows Update

    [*]Press "Scan".

[*]It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

[*]Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

-------------

Next..........

Please download and run RogueKiller.

Choose 1 to scan the system

Post back the report.

-------------------------

Last.......

Please download OTL from one of the links below:

http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe

http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.com (<---renamed version)

Save it to your desktop.

Double click on the icon on your desktop.

Click the Scan All Users checkbox.

Push the Quick Scan button.

The scan will take about 10 minutes...depends on your hard drive size.

Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here: (or attach them as .txt files)

OTL.txt <-- Will be opened

Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized
