Malwarebytes Trial restarting?

Recommended Posts

I downloaded the Malwarebytes trial when I installed the new Windows 8 Developer Preview around November 5th. The 30 day trial completed its run, so I switched to using Windows 8's built-in protection alongside Spybot Search and Destroy, but I kept Malwarebytes in case I needed it for a tough removal job.

On New Year's day, the trial actually started over with a 13-day trial! I figured it was some kind of Holiday Promotion, so I didn't think much of it. However, the 13 day trial ended today, as I expected it would, but upon checking it again, it appears I have 13 more days of the free trial.

Oddly enough, I can click a button that says "start trial" in the protection tab, and a message appears telling me that the trial is incompatible with my version.

The version I'm using is 1.60.0.1800. It updates its databases and blocks potential malicious websites as normal.

Anyone know what's up and what I should do? I don't want to be a freeloader.

Greetings :)

We did reset the trial when we recently released version 1.60.0.1800, so that's why the trial reset itself and activated again. It should expire normally once the 14 days has passed, but if you wish to stop using the trial, you can simply do a clean uninstall/reinstall as detailed in the below instructions and simply decline the trial when it is offered:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
