Hi, I have a couple issues I was wondering if they could be solved.

1. MBAM is blocking some portion of avast, I have tried to add every part of avast I can think of to the allow list, but it still blocks the avast service fro going out onto the web. I know it is not blocking the live update of avast, I usually see that I have been updated, but I don't know what it is blocking, or if it should be blocking. Is it just blocking avast's attempts to phone back home to mamma, and tell mommy what I have been doing with it, or other activities on my computer, I wish I had written down the exact name of the process that MBAM is blocking, but its has to do with avast service of some kind. If it is doing it to me, I figured it is doing it to others, and someone could tell me what, and why.

2. This just started, but when I restart my computer I now get this message. The first one I get is 0x800106ba failed to initialize, I know that is windows defender failing to start, although I don't even know why it is trying to start, I have Avast, and MBAM so it shouldn't even be trying to start, but now I also get this [open event] failed to perform desired action for MBAM, I now have to start it manually, anyone have any idea's on why?

Thank you. Alex.

Hello and welcome, AlexL:

Until an MBAM staffer comes along, please have a look at the FAQ - Section K for information about setting the reciprocal exclusions between MBAM and Avast. A clean install of MBAM and setting the permissions between the 2 programs usually resolves minor conflicts.

If that doesn't resolve your issue, and for assistance with your second issue, please wait for someone more expert.

Thanks!

That section is for Avast letting MBAM through, but thanks.

Hi:

Actually, if you read to the bottom of that section, the last part includes the instructions for telling MBAM to ignore Avast: :)

Set Exclusions for Avast! Antivirus Free, Pro and Internet Security in Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on the Ignore List tab

Click on the Add button on the lower left

In the small browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files and click once on avast software and click on OK

Close Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Also, you might wish to have a look at FAQ - Section G for an explanation of why MBAM appears to be blocking your AV.

Additionally, this post by forum moderator Exile360 might also shed some light, including recommendations on how to proceed if you think that you might be infected. (There are several other threads about Avast and MBAM here, as well.)

Sorry I can't offer more specific assistance, as I do not use Avast.

I'm sure one of the more expert folks will have some additional recs for you.

HTH and thanks for your patience,

daledoc1

PS: Please use the zMn2t.jpg button instead of the other ones when you reply here and at the other forums, so that it will be easier to read. :)

AlexL, you may be running Windows Defender without realizing it.

In Windows 7 it is turned on by default as far as I know.

Did you manually turn it off?

Installing MS Security Essentials turns it off during the install.

I doubt Avast and/or Malwarebytes turn it off during the install...

Can you go to Control Panel and find "Windows Defender"?

I see "This program is turned off", when I click on Windows Defender in Control Panel.
