I scanned my laptop Wednesday and malewarebytes found 3 PUMs. I quarantined them and everything seemed fine. The next day I didn't internet and I haven't been able to get internet on it since.

It says its connected but "acquiring network address" or it's connected but I'm still not getting internet. Today it's back to acquiring network address. I'm using AVAST anti virus and whatever happened disabled one of my shields and I can't enable it or get into my firewall settings like it told me to do.

I've been searching all day for a fix and nothing has helped! I've installed that SUPER Anti-Spyware program (ran a scan and it's clear), I've tried the winsockxpfix thing (I don't remember exactly what it was called... sorry about that.) and I've been told to go into my tools and check/uncheck boxes. I've also tried ComboFix, but I don't have something and it needs the internet to install it and when it continues anyway it shuts down before it can scan the laptop.

I don't have the exact PUM because I was told to delete them but they were disable antivirus, firewall and updates/security?

I've ran Malewarebytes and the super anti spyware programs again and they're clean. Did Malwarebytes do this? I've never had this problem before and it's been a great program so far...

I'm using Windows XP and that's all I know about it at the moment.

Greetings :)

It sounds likely that an infection broke your connection when MBAM tried to remove it, something that we've seen some infections do quite often lately unfortunately. To get your system working properly again, please do the following:

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then create a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one on one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

If you prefer to be assisted via email you may contact support@malwarebytes.org and one of our support staff members will assist you directly.

If you are a reseller, affiliate, technician, corporate, business, educational, government or non-profit customer then please contact corporate-support@malwarebytes.org and include full contact details along with your Reference # when you do to ensure that you receive prompt assistance.

Thank you :)
