I have Win XP SP3 and the free version of Malwarebytes 1.60. I had initial trouble like a lot of people when installing 1.60 over the previous version and used the mbam-clean reboot download and reinstall solution which seemed to work fine. The first scan heuristically discovered two registry items which I was well aware of i.e HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\Firewall\DisableNotify Bad(1)Good(0) and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\Antivirus\DisableNotify Bad(1)Good(0).

I know these are disabled by my Norton Internet Security which has taken over those functions from Windows Security and have had them in My Ignore List for many years. I put them in the Ignore List as before although it seemed a bit complicated this time as tabs seemed to seize up except for an option of returning to the main menu which I clicked as there seemed no further progress otherwise and got a message telling me my scan log would be lost if I continued which I didn't understand the reason for. However I did continue to the main menu when all tabs worked and the items appeared in full as above in my ignore list although there was no result log as I was warned - bit baffling to me - do you know why this awkward complication is included?

Today I updated with v2011.12.31.02 and quick scanned which discovered the same two items again. It seems they had disappeared from my ignore List and gone back into the mix and I had to re-ignore them with the same stuff about losing the scan log as before and the items appeared in my Ignore List but with the "Bad(1) Good(0)"missing from the end.

At the moment all seems OK but I said that before in a previous post on 28th Dec about the initial 1.60 problems I was having. Nevertheless I would appreciate advice and information on all this if anyone knows what is happening.

Greetings :)

Perform another scan with Malwarebytes and verify that the items are still detected even though they are in your ignore list. Once that is done, please go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. There you will find a file called exclusions.dat. Copy the file and paste it to your desktop, then zip and attach it to your next post.

Also, for the issue with the tabs/buttons at the end of your scan, this is quite normal. To complete the scan process, even if all detected items were added to the Ignore List, you must click on Remove Selected. MBAM will then report that there are no items left to remove, the scan will be completed, and the log (with 0 detections) will be created and then opened in notepad. It was also this way in previous versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Thanks for your quick response, exile360.

All seems OK at the moment. I have rebooted, checked that the items show in the Ignore List and quick scanned several times now.

I have tried to do as you suggest but although I have copied pasted and zipped the"exclusions" file onto my desktop I don't know how to get it onto the post. Copy and paste doesnt work here for that perhaps you can help please as I am not familiar with the procedure. Also the actual file shows as a non-specific Windows icon.

Sure, just click on the Add Reply button at the bottom of this topic and you'll find a Browse... button below where it says Attachments. A browse window will then open and you can navigate to your desktop and double-click on the zip file and then click the Attach This File button. Once you click the Add Reply button below the Attachments menu, you'll see your attachment inline in your post :).

  • 2 weeks later...

This problem doesn't appear to be fixed yet. MBAM picked out my two ignore items again in a quick scan result today. I had updated and checked that they were still in the Ignore list beforehand. However I have re-added them to the Ingnore list now and ran a few quick scans and a reboot without them appearing again in the scans.

I am having the same problem. I have a few settings changes that I intentionally made that pick up as a Hijack and two other ones that pick up as PUMs. After I ignore them and do another quick scan they do not show up. After two or three days they come back in the scan result list even though they are still listed in the ignore list. I am also using windows xp with XP3. This didn't seem to happen in the older version of Malwarebytes. I have read and done exactly what you told the other person and it still continues to happen. I have attached my exclusions.dat file with this post also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
