Hello,

I just bought MBAM yesterday and downloaded the installation program. When I double-clicked on it, the Windows dialog opened up asking if I wanted to run the program. I clicked "Run" and then it did nothing. I waited a few minutes, tred again, still nothing. After a few tries, I opened the Task Manager and found no instances of MBAM in either the Applications or Processes lists.

My computer seems to be under attack (which is why I bought MBAM in the first place) and keeps giving me messages from a virus protection program I already had on the computer (I got the PC second hand with some software already installed). The messages list a bunch of trojans and other viruses it found on the computer and asks whether I want to delete them. I click Delete, and that opens a web page where I have to buy an expensive upgrade in order to do anything further. The whole thing looks bogus to me and my guess is that the anti-virus program is the virus. I'm posting from a different computer, btw.

I'm running Win XP, not sure which service pack, I think it's SP2. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Joyce

Greetings :)

It sounds as though you are infected, and the infection is blocking MBAM from being installed. Please do the following to receive expert assistance with getting your system cleaned up:

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then create a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one on one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

If you prefer to be assisted via email you may contact support@malwarebytes.org and one of our support staff members will assist you directly.
