Hello!

Just wanted to say BIG Thank you to all those who work on Malwarebytes!

Just a day before Christmas, my computer got infected by so called ''fake anti-malware'' program called Security Sphere 2012, I was using Avira AntiVir program witch detected a virus, then a system error came up, and once I clicked OK, all problems started, fake pop-ups etc, also the virus was freezed the whole system, luckily after some time it blocked virus to access the files that only Windows should access, can't really remember, then I finally was able to download Malwarebytes and it removed that nasty malware out of my PC!

I have uninstalled Avira AntiVir already as it couldn't protect and let the virus in, so now I will trust Malwarebytes only, although I don't trust any anti-virus program, but this program made me happy by removing virus fully, I think my PC is running faster then before also, lol!

I'm also thinking of upgrading to PRO also, as soon as my trial time will be over!

Thank you!

The first thing you need to know is that the so called ''fake anti-malware'' program called Security Sphere 2012 is not a virus. It is a form of trojan. Both viruses and trojans are "malware". All viruses are malware but not all malware are viruses.

In simplistic terms, trojans need assistance to get installed such as through the vulnerability/exploitation vector or via a Social Engineering ploy. Security Sphere 2012 is a perfect example.

Viruses self replicate and spread from file to file or from computer to computer by itself, autonomously, and without intervention.

Avira AntiVir is a anti virus application that targets viruses and most trojans and performs both "On Access" and "On Demand" scanning.

Malwarebytes targets trojans and the effects made to the Operating Systems by the trojans. Malwarebytes' Anti Malware (MBAM) doesn't specifically "target" viruses because MBAM can't "clean" the malicious code from an infected file where code has been; prepended, appended or cavity injected. For that matter MBAM can't "clean" a trojanized file either. At best MBAM will delete these files. To my knowledge, with the present version, MBAM can't "clean" Master Boot Record (MBR) code either.

That is one of the two main reasons why MBAM supplements anti virus software such as Avira AntiVir and does not replace anti virus software.

I strongly suggest that you re-install Avira AntiVir as you need both. The best way to explain it is one application picks up where the other application leaves off.
