Ultimate Defender - can't shake it

(2nd post try) I somehow picked up UD antivermin yesterday. Installed the latest avast (did a boot scan) and RougeRemover free and pro with updates as of today but still am showing the infection in my tool tray and maxed out CPU usage.... Did a scan here for UD and saw the advice at http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...timate+defender which I will follow shortly. Just wanted to check if there was something else.

Thanks, Brooke.

Yes to Ad-Aware, no to SpyBot, which I take it I should and will do.

Thanks, Tarun.

Once I get out from under this weight I'm going to try to find out what's being pursued to hold the guilty parties accountable, but I guess that's another thing altogether.

Thanks, got the fix, though running SB twice successively at boot supposedly fixed it. And even so, PCU usage is hot, the sys icon remains and that friendly little message just popped up again (no surprise). I never have gotten the symptoms of smitfraud as indicated by SB (the replaced screen saver).

Here are some screen shots showing the systray icon, its message and other messages; none very unique or interesting, I'm sure. You have to look at the slideshow to get a decent sized look (maybe I'll put some more crops up so that's not necessary but the screen otherwise is just too small).

I'm still infected.

Brooke, if you like there is a PC Maintenance guide on my website (link is in my sig) and Anti-Malware Packages as well. They contain everything you'd need to clean your pc. There are also settings for many of the applications. I hope it will help you. :D

Once done, you can post a HijackThis log here and I can analyze it for you.

Working through your list (http://www.lunarsoft.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=1441), I've found most of the items but

I'm not sure which TheNotifier to use (one from http://djlizard.net/2006/06/29/170, the another from http://members.cox.net/trayfolder/freeware...henotifier.htm).

From start to finish:
Peperfix, VX2Finder, TheNotifier (used to verify the results of VX2Finder), ADSSpy, SpywareBlaster, CCleaner, CWShredder, Ad-Aware (and I install the defs I pre-downloaded using my InstallDefs.bat file), Spybot S&D (and all three of the updates), Autoruns, HijackThis, Dial-a-fix, LSPFix, UPHClean and Windows Updates.
