I have a PC which was infected with some kind of malware, ran the scanner and it found 7 or so items, when I deleted them the fake AVG software scam disappeared, but now the PC WILL not connect to any type of network at all. Hard wire or wireless it just keeps bouncing trying to get an IP. I removed both devices from the device manager but still no dice when they reinstall. I've tried some things from online to manually update with the rules.ref, and the mbam-rules.exe but when I copy over the rules.ref from an updated PC and launch MB from the infected PC, I get an error that the database is missing or corrupt. The PC is just stuck on "acquiring a network address" running Windows XP, dell Latitude E6400 laptop

The date on the dat file on the infected PC is from 12/24, where the date on the updated clean PC is 12/29.

How can I get MB to manually update successfully on the infected PC so I can see if there are any issues lingering around that are preventing the network from establishing a connection?

please help
