Please help!: MBAM detected/blocked trojans, MBAM uninstalled and won't reinstall after update attempt, computer shuts down instead of...

Recommended Posts

Usually I can resolve computer problems with some determined Googling but in the past 4 days my computer keeps accumulating issues that I can't figure out how to solve. I'm hoping the amazing experts on this forum can help me out before I give up and send my computer in for repairs, or attempt to reinstall Windows 7 (would that even help? I'm not sure)

Two things happened around the same time:

1. My computer won't hibernate correctly. I either click hibernate or it hibernates on its own by default, but when I press the power button I get the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen and when I choose to "start up normally" there is a screen I've never seen before that says "Loading files..." and then my computer goes into Startup Repair mode. After a few minutes it detects that kdcom.dll is corrupt. This happens every time, but eventually I can start my computer (sometimes the startup repair fixes it, sometimes the startup repair says it can't automatically fix the problem and shuts down -- but when I restart it it seems okay).

2. MBAM blocked some sort of Trojan (there was a popup). I'm really sorry I don't have access to it anymore but I think it was some sort of Trojan.Agent in svchost.exe . I ran a "full scan" on MBAM and there was one detection of the same file name as the popup so I deleted the virus.

Then I did a system restore to about a week back when my computer was working fine and rescanned. The same virus and I deleted it again -- I also suspected that the Seagate external HD I have connected to my laptop might be infected so I scanned that and there was a trojan, which I deleted.

So the hibernating problem hasn't been going away, and today MBAM popped up with a different virus (I forgot the name! Sorry -- might've been another trojan). I tried to update MBAM so I could rescan but the update asked me to install the newest version. When I tried to I got this error:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Chameleon\svchost.exe

An error occured while trying to rename a file in the destination directory:

MoveFile failed; code 5.

Access is denied.

Then I couldn't even open the program because of Run-time error 453 regarding a SetLanguagePath ? After some Googling, I downloaded clean-mbam which uninstalled the MBAM I had installed but I couldn't install a new version because of the code 5 error above. (So now I am without MBAM on my computer.) My antivirus is McAfee VirusScan Enterprise ver. 8.7.0i but during one of the restarts I noticed that it was disabled. (I don't think it is anymore, but I can't really tell). I remember in the past malware has disabled MBAM before so I wonder if the infections are causing my problems with MBAM.

Thanks so much for your time and I'm sorry for the lengthy post! I really want to resolve this before I go back to school because I can't get on my school's network without MBAM and McAfee VirusScan installed >_< I'm very bothered by the hibernation issue and I wonder if I should get this checked out by a computer repair company or, alternatively, attempt reinstall Windows 7 by myself.
