Virus crippled - finishing it off

Recommended Posts

Once again, my girlfriend's computer got infected, and I have the task of cleaning it up. I've been mostly successful - much of the suspect behavior has been eliminated, but there are still a few quirks giving me trouble. It looks like MalwareBytes took out the majority of the problem, but there may be a few issues lurking that I'd like assistance with correcting. Firefox has been opening new tabs without instruction, and over time popups will appear.

It should say something about the standard use of the computer in question that my process of repairing including updating Firefox from version 3 to 9. Java, Adobe products, and all available Windows and driver updates I could find were also applied.

MalwareBytes is currently returning no items found on full scans. HijackThis log follows.

It is suggested that you rename mrt.exe to some other name, such as Omega.exe, then run it.

After a run of MSRT has finished, you will find the log at C:\WINDOWS\Debug\mrt.log or C:\WINNT\Debug\mrt.log

The file may be opened and viewed with Notepad or similar text editor.

If and only if your system is Windows 7 x64, Vista x64, Windows XP x64 and Windows 2008/2003 x64 computers.
