Malware preventing programs from starting

asunder

Recommended Posts

I am running XP SP3, and recently got malware disguised as Microsoft XP Antivirus protection on my taskbar. It prevented all other programs from running, popping up and claiming that I needed to buy/register the software. On reboot, the malware seems to be gone but I now get the following error:

yfi.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point MSWSOCK.MigrateWinsockConfiguration could not be located in the dynamic link library WSOCK32.dll.

I am also getting dozens of yfi.exe entries in my process list, and the 'Mem Usage' for ping.exe is going thorugh the roof. Now I cannot start firefox, any of my anti-mal or anti-spyware programs, Microsoft Office programs, etc. Most of the tools on the taskbar no longer come up either.

I ran dds.scr and have attached the results. I really appreciate your attention and any help you can offer. Thanks!

Hello,

Would you advise if you have resolved your issues or if you have sought help elsewhere?

If not resolved and you are not already seeking help elsewhere, I'd like for you to rerun a new (fresh) DDS and Copy & Paste the DDS.txt into a new reply.

Anyone other than original-poster who has similar issues, do not reply here. Start your own topic.
