desktop restoration

On 12/12 at exactly 11pm PDT, I got hit with the system fix malware. Thanks to various solutions (most of them from these forums and other users thanks!) over the past five days-work and kids limit my problem solving time-and trying stuff repeatedly, I managed to get malware updated and after two reboots, the various warning messages have not returned. However, a portion of the @$# thing is still in there because I have to run unhide.exe after each reboot, and my desktop screen is still completely black. As far as I know I didn't delete any temporary files. How can I get my desktop back to its previous state, AND make sure I have eliminated the @)$* malware? Because of my experience with the forums and MBAM I am likely to purchase the full version at this point, so you don't need to sell me on that...

I am currently running an MBAM full scan to make sure it got everything, hopefully it will be done and have results for me by the time I get home.

I did see someone else had the same problem when I was reading the forums looking for a solution, but darned if I can find that post again.

If you think you are infected, here are the steps needed to get your computer cleaned....

Don't use any temporary file cleaners unless requested - this can cause data loss and make recovery difficult
