I have some sort of bug...and I can't get rid of it!

So it all started with windows xp 2012 security. I tried to get windows to safe mode which was a chore in an of itself because F8 would not work. But eventually I did get it to safemode but I couldn't get malwarebytes to run. So I did a system restore and that got me to the point where I could run malwarebytes which I did. Twice. The first one came up with 13 infections, and the second time with just 1. But I still have something on my computer that is opening tabs in my mozilla firefox browser and popping up with a desktop defender. I am at a loss now on how to fix this. :( Please help me, you wonderful computer guru's. I'm at a loss.
