I just had a computer crash and when I rebooted MBAM could not load so I re-downloaded and re-installed the latest version. Everything was going OK until i noticed my protection mode was not enabled so I tried to enable it and it just stayed greyed out with an error code of 1072. I am not the most savvy PC guy but have a few years of just mostly personal experience and so I am always thankful for my Malware bytes protection mode making me safe on the web, etc... Purchasing the pro license is probably the best value I have spent my money on... that said, I'm wondering why i can't enable the protection mode now?

Hi, taxijim:

Welcome to MBAM.

Until an expert arrives, a list of the various error codes can be found in the FAQ - Section C. That particular code is a Microsoft/Windows error code.

When you say you reinstalled MBAM, did you do a CLEAN reinstall, including running the clean-up tool first?

If not, that would be the first thing to try.

Here's how to proceed:

  • If you are using MBAM PRO, be sure to have your license ID and key handy first.
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here.
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so (very important!).
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here.
Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license ID & key you were sent via email, if you are using the PRO version.
  • Launch MBAM and set the Protection and Registration (if using the PRO version).
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications. Then restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs here, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Please post back and let us know if this resolves your issue.

Thanks!

Well now I truly do feel like a dummy! After my probably most famous quote when stumped by a particular pc problem is " when all else fails, reboot" and this is what i tell most everyone who (for whatever reason) asks my help and i can't figure out what the cause is. SO I just rebooted and my problem is fixed! protection mode is now enabled - thanks for everyone who read this and sorry to waste your time

BTW thanks again for the helpful instructions. I am running the PRO version and I noticed you said for me to be sure and have my license ID and key handy when reinstalling MBAM. I was concerned about this because I am not sure where that code is BUT was fortunate in that evidently MBAM recognized my computer as being registered to use the PRO version because after re-install it did NOT ask me for my license ID or key and displayed the PRO version status at the top of the screen. (whew!) I do remember that I also purchased the extended download capability of the program when I purchased my license, but once again I am not sure where I put the original key when it was given to me. I am contemplating replacing my old desktop with a new one during the next few days while there are still some pretty good post black friday deals going on and would of course like to have my MBAM installed on my new system immediately. Was wondering how i could go about getting my license sent back to me so I could be sure to have it to install on my new system when it arrives?

The license ID and key are in an email sent to you by the reseller, Cleverbridge.

It's a good idea to keep a paper copy of this info somewhere handy, in case you need to reinstall.

If you run the mbam-clean tool (as is recommended for a clean reinstall), it will wipe out the registration info in the Windows registry.

So, that's why we advise to have that information available BEFORE uninstalling.

For future reference:

cs@cleverbridge.com

Phone: +1-866-522-6855

Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM (CST)

Also, their contact info can be found HERE.

Otherwise, it can cause some delay, if you end up having to contact Cleverbridge to have them retrieve that info for you.

(Should that ever happen, you could -- as a temporary measure -- reinstall MBAM and activate the time-limited PRO TRIAL, while you sort out your licensure issues.)

Also, each consumer license is lifetime & transferable, but only for a single computer.

So, if you have more than 1 rig and more than 1 license ID/key, be sure to keep track of which one is installed on which system.

There was a user recently who had trouble activating after reinstall because she was trying to use a license ID/key already in use on one of her other computers.

Just a few tips from another home user, :)
