Hi, we are having lots of problems with my sister's laptop and wondered if anyone could help please?

When I turned on the laptop yesterday, all of the desktop icons have disappeared and the screensaver, desktop background etc have all returned to the original Windows 7 settings. A message appeared saying that I had been logged on with a temorary profile.

All of her documents, pictures and music have also disappeared and when I try to view these folders it says that they are empty.

I restored the computer to an earlier date and thought that I had been successful as all of the desktop icons reappeared after restarting, but about 2 seconds later they were all gone again.

I carried out a whole computer scan using Malwarebytes and it found one infected file called "Hijack.displayproperties" I have removed this but the problem has not been resolved.

I have had a small bit of success as I managed to get the recycle bin and computer icons to show back on the desktop but each time I restart or shut down the computer these are wiped off the desktop and it is empty again, and I am logged into a "temporary profile".

When looking on your website forums I saw a case which sounded similar to mine where they discussed the Windows restore virus, so we decided to try following your instructions on how to get our files back.

I used the "unhide" shown in the topic, then used RougeKiller. I then went on to use OTL, but have not been able to.

I downloaded it to my desktop but when I try to run it it says "OTL cannot be run from a temporary folder! Please download it to your Desktop or other suitable location."

Any help on this would be gratefully received,

Thank you
