  1. Hello, I am having trouble with PUP.Optional.Legacy in Chrome. Tried multiple scanners, only AdwCleaner detects it I've been battling this beast for a while now. What I've done so far: I've clean installed windows twice. I have reset chrome settings multiple times. I have reset chrome sync multiple times.I have deleted cookies, preferences and all files from %LOCALAPPDATA% for Chrome. I have installed Chrome from the offline installer. I have cut the internet connection and did all of those steps again. I've narrowed it down to this: At first I thought it comes from my profile/sync. But I have done the steps below, without internet connection and it keeps coming back. It is somehow connected with the search engines/search providers of Chrome and/or Chrome settings. I can clean it with AdwCleaner, or manually remove the search engines from Chrome settings and it seems to disappear. But even if it does, after a few minutes, Chrome starts lagging, freezing a lot, and loading pages very, very slowly. I can tab out of Chrome and go to another browser, enter the web site and it will fully load, while in Chrome it is still loading. I run a scan with AdwCleaner - nothing, but I know it's there, my browser is lagging so bad... Here how it always comes back. Every time I click on "Reset settings" in Chrome, the adware/virus comes back. This additional search engines appear in the settings: And after a scan, these are the results: And here is the Log File from the scan: AdwCleaner[S70].txt I am not smart enough to handle this on my own. I need help.
  2. Hi there. I just signed up after finding out with a quick and first scan ever of AdwCleaner that I am infected with PUP.Optional.Legacy. There were about 3 other PUP infections that were easily removed upon restart. This one kept coming back up with a new scan right away. Here are the logs of the AdwCleaner scan. MalwareBytes itself didn't pick up any threats. # ------------------------------- # Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.1.1.0 # ------------------------------- # Build: 04-27-2018 # Database: 2018-05-02.2 # Support: https://www.malwarebytes.com/support # # ------------------------------- # Mode: Scan # ------------------------------- # Start: 05-05-2018 # Duration: 00:00:09 # OS: Windows 7 Ultimate # Scanned: 40818 # Detected: 1 ***** [ Services ] ***** No malicious services found. ***** [ Folders ] ***** No malicious folders found. ***** [ Files ] ***** No malicious files found. ***** [ DLL ] ***** No malicious DLLs found. ***** [ WMI ] ***** No malicious WMI found. ***** [ Shortcuts ] ***** No malicious shortcuts found. ***** [ Tasks ] ***** No malicious tasks found. ***** [ Registry ] ***** No malicious registry entries found. ***** [ Chromium (and derivatives) ] ***** No malicious Chromium entries found. ***** [ Chromium URLs ] ***** PUP.Optional.Legacy AOL ***** [ Firefox (and derivatives) ] ***** No malicious Firefox entries found. ***** [ Firefox URLs ] ***** No malicious Firefox URLs found. ########## EOF - C:\AdwCleaner\Logs\AdwCleaner[S03].txt ##########
  3. Hi, I have the problem with the PUP.Optional.Spigot, I saw a previous topic, this is the Zoek log. Thank you zoek-results.log
  4. The reason that these pups are not going away is because they are syncing across Chrome on all devices including Mac Linux Android and PC. It is the same file being sent by Chrome across all platforms. It is only detected by Malwarebytes on the PC, it is not detected by malwarebytes for Android or for Mac. I tried the following experiment: I disable all of my devices except for say, one mac and one PC and I clean the PC and then I let the PC in the Mac sync the infection comes back to the PC even though the Mac tested clean (I eat with the Mac version of Malwarebytes). The same is true for Android and Linux. Android tests clean, I cannot tell you about Linux other than it does not show up in bitdefender. I performed an additional experiment to test the hypothesis that the infection is syncing with the Google cloud as well, in addition to syncing with other machines- however I do not think that's the case because when I disable all devices except one PC, and then clean the one PC with Malwarebytes, the one PC does not get infected until I fire up Chrome on another device. Perhaps Malwarebytes could list these PUPs along with the platform-specific virus definitions for mac and Android, however that will not fix the problem for Linux, and something else has to be done there. If you have a beta version of malwarebytes for Linux this would be a good time to release a limited functionality version of it to just do this one thing. - B
  5. Good Afternoon, I have seen there are quite a few other people who are having this same issue, and so I want to make a post to try to resolve this same issue I am having. This PUP.Optional.Spigot keeps coming back, even after I let the scan go and I quarantine it. I followed the guidelines listed in this post: However, this did not help, as the PUP still came back after following the directions. I'm not the best at figuring out this kind of stuff, so some help would be greatly appreciated. I'll post the logs of the Malwarebytes Scan that I ran, as well as that FRST and Addition.txt I saw mentioned in the "I'm infected - What do I do?" thread. If there is anything else I need to upload, please inform me. On a side note, I ran the AdwCleaner, and the PUP.Optional.Spigot doesn't pop up, which I am somewhat confused by. Anyway, if anyone could help me out here, I would be greatly appreciate. Thank you. Addition.txt FRST.txt pupspigot.txt AdwCleaner[S0].txt
  6. Hi Can you please check the logs below for pup.optional.legacy that keeps appearing on my PC after repeated scans of ADW and MalwareBytes? I have run the tools many times and still the PUP re-appears after opening Chrome. FRST.txt Addition.txt
  7. Malwarebytes Premium Trial is constantly blocking a malicious website called coin-hive,com. Malwarebytes didn't detect any virus so i decided to use AdwCleaner. It detected PUP.Optional.Legacy, and it deleted it, but when i reboot the pc as adwcleaner asks me, malwarebytes continues blocking this website, and when i run AdwCleaner again, PUP.Optional.Legacy is there again. What do i do?
