Since my latest windows 10 update (May 2018) my windows 10 laptop has been hanging when it tries to update Malwarebytes. I have seen it suggested that I uninstall and reinstall MB. Unfortunately, I have no access to make the machine do anything. It won't even start Task Manager. The mouse will mover around and I can type in fill boxes but all to no avail if it is an attempt to run a program or application. It won't start file explorer, browser, it won't restart. The only control I have is to hold the power button for a while until it does a forced reboot. When I sign in, it is still in a hung state.
I've essentially described my dilemma in the topic title. The internet is the most frustrating part and I suspect that might have something to do with an infection. Since I can't directly interact with anyone online, is there somehow a way I can fix the problem via my portable hard drive? Any help would be greatly appreciated
I've essentially described the entire problem in the topic tag. The most frustrating part is not being able to access this forum directly on my P.C., due to the intermittent internet (I suspect this might also be caused by malware). Solutions required urgently. I would be very grateful of any help.
Are the MBAM update executables supposed to be digitally signed or not? I don't know how much protection a signature adds. But I kind of recall cases where program updates have been used to introduce a payload, like Finfisher in Firefox updates or something, so I try to keep an eye on at least executable update files. I'm sure Finfisher users have no issue adding any signature to anything of course but smaller players might. And how well protected are other MBAM updates, like data files?
