My nephew shares a desktop Win 7 PC with 4 other family members. He plays an online game using Google thru Firefox and seems to have infected the computer. I visit every month or two to run scans, update programs and general maintenance. This time Malwarebytes free has detected 228 items and freezes at the 04:54 mark every time, even in Safe Mode. Laptop works fine until it randomly locks up. All I can do is move the mouse and it won't unfreeze unless I force a restart and even then sometimes it freezes immediately after I log on. I've tried scanning but it freezes before the scan can every finish. Is there anything else I can do aside from just factory reset?
Windows Explorer and keyboard commands (Windows Key, Ctrl+Alt+Del) do not respond around the Welcome screen or shortly after. This only happens when Malwarebytes is actively protecting the system and the services are set to startup on boot. The Caps Lock and Numlock key still responds, and the cursor responds to the touchpad. The computer has passed hardware diagnostics. Windows is also running with Norton Anti-Virus. We've disabled everything else in the startup group, and Windows still stops responding to commands. Norton, Malwarebytes, and the Kaspersky Rescue Disk scans come up clean. A
