  1. Hello, I am having trouble with PUP.Optional.Legacy in Chrome. Tried multiple scanners, only AdwCleaner detects it I've been battling this beast for a while now. What I've done so far: I've clean installed windows twice. I have reset chrome settings multiple times. I have reset chrome sync multiple times.I have deleted cookies, preferences and all files from %LOCALAPPDATA% for Chrome. I have installed Chrome from the offline installer. I have cut the internet connection and did all of those steps again. I've narrowed it down to this: At first I thought it comes from my profile/sync. But I have done the steps below, without internet connection and it keeps coming back. It is somehow connected with the search engines/search providers of Chrome and/or Chrome settings. I can clean it with AdwCleaner, or manually remove the search engines from Chrome settings and it seems to disappear. But even if it does, after a few minutes, Chrome starts lagging, freezing a lot, and loading pages very, very slowly. I can tab out of Chrome and go to another browser, enter the web site and it will fully load, while in Chrome it is still loading. I run a scan with AdwCleaner - nothing, but I know it's there, my browser is lagging so bad... Here how it always comes back. Every time I click on "Reset settings" in Chrome, the adware/virus comes back. This additional search engines appear in the settings: And after a scan, these are the results: And here is the Log File from the scan: AdwCleaner[S70].txt I am not smart enough to handle this on my own. I need help.
  2. Hi there. I just signed up after finding out with a quick and first scan ever of AdwCleaner that I am infected with PUP.Optional.Legacy. There were about 3 other PUP infections that were easily removed upon restart. This one kept coming back up with a new scan right away. Here are the logs of the AdwCleaner scan. MalwareBytes itself didn't pick up any threats. # ------------------------------- # Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.1.1.0 # ------------------------------- # Build: 04-27-2018 # Database: 2018-05-02.2 # Support: https://www.malwarebytes.com/support # # ------------------------------- # Mode: Scan # ------------------------------- # Start: 05-05-2018 # Duration: 00:00:09 # OS: Windows 7 Ultimate # Scanned: 40818 # Detected: 1 ***** [ Services ] ***** No malicious services found. ***** [ Folders ] ***** No malicious folders found. ***** [ Files ] ***** No malicious files found. ***** [ DLL ] ***** No malicious DLLs found. ***** [ WMI ] ***** No malicious WMI found. ***** [ Shortcuts ] ***** No malicious shortcuts found. ***** [ Tasks ] ***** No malicious tasks found. ***** [ Registry ] ***** No malicious registry entries found. ***** [ Chromium (and derivatives) ] ***** No malicious Chromium entries found. ***** [ Chromium URLs ] ***** PUP.Optional.Legacy AOL ***** [ Firefox (and derivatives) ] ***** No malicious Firefox entries found. ***** [ Firefox URLs ] ***** No malicious Firefox URLs found. ########## EOF - C:\AdwCleaner\Logs\AdwCleaner[S03].txt ##########

  4. I have the Premium Trial of Malwarebytes and it did not find the PUP.Optional.Legacy infection in my Registry that AdwCleaner found.... I am confused why Malwarebytes did not recognize it? I'm even more perplexed as to what to do about it... I'm not tech savvy and I don't want to remove a registry file that is needed for my computer to run properly... Legacy (I presume) is causing occasional havoc on my computer and would obviously like for Legacy to be removed before any more damage is done. I'm GRATEFUL for any help! # AdwCleaner 7.0.8.0 - Logfile created on Fri Mar 16 19:30:19 2018 # Updated on 2018/08/02 by Malwarebytes # Database: 2018-03-14.3 # Running on Windows 10 Home (X64) # Mode: scan # Support: https://www.malwarebytes.com/support ***** [ Services ] ***** No malicious services found. ***** [ Registry ] ***** PUP.Optional.Legacy, [Key] - HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{8BF0126F-A5B7-4720-ABB2-2414A0AF5474} ***** [ Firefox (and derivatives) ] ***** No malicious Firefox entries. ***** [ Chromium (and derivatives) ] ***** No malicious Chromium entries. ************************* C:/AdwCleaner/AdwCleaner[S0].txt - [1006 B] - [2018/3/15 17:11:51] C:/AdwCleaner/AdwCleaner[S1].txt - [1074 B] - [2018/3/15 18:4:42] C:/AdwCleaner/AdwCleaner[S2].txt - [1141 B] - [2018/3/15 20:29:46] C:/AdwCleaner/AdwCleaner[S3].txt - [1209 B] - [2018/3/16 5:28:52] C:/AdwCleaner/AdwCleaner[S4].txt - [1276 B] - [2018/3/16 19:23:41] ########## EOF - C:\AdwCleaner\AdwCleaner[S5].txt ##########
  5. Hi, i don't know if this is the right place to ask for my problem/concern, but if is not feel free to move to the right section (and sorry for the mistake). So, few days ago i found on my pc an old software unused by me for at least 3 years (between the last usage and now i upgraded win 7 to win 10. i don't know if this can help or can be a problem in the diagnosis). Just for curiosity and to be sure i used virus total scanner on the .exe file of that software and the results revealed for 3 of 67 analysis scanners that there was a Riskware (0040eff71). My reaction to this was to download ADWcleaner (because it helped me in other circustances in the past) to scan my pc. I don't have anymore the log files because i unistalled ADWcleaner (i regret this decision), but i remember the entries. ADWcleaner only found 2 suspicious results in the Registry field (*only things i don't remember are if HKEY was HKLM or HKCU): PUP.Optional.Legacy key registry HK*/Software/Classes/Interface {ID} PUP.Optional.Multiplug key registry HK*/Software/Classes/TypeLib {ID} At this point i cleaned up with ADWcleaner but the PUP.Optional.Legacy came back once. I cleaned again and also this one disappeared. After this i unistalled ADWcleaner and installed Malwarebytes 3 to make sure nothing else remained. I ran the scan and nothing has been found so i supposed the pc was correctly cleaned, but in the runtime protection of the premium trial i was reported with several venturead.com block site events during my daily navigation. I scanned again with Malwarebytes 3 and i also installed and ran Zemana, but nothing has been reported as malevolous. Looking for advise on internet, i reset the browser and the venturead.com events disappeared. The goal of this topic is mainly to understand the tipe of infection that i faced and if i should be worried about my accounting credentials used during this long time that supposedly i was exposed. So, my questions are: 1) what kind of threats were these of mine? (i would like to understand more about every evidence i described just to learn more about this. i searched on internet but nothing was exactly my case) 2) should i be worried about my credencials? (i usually change passwords every 5, 6 month, last time 2 weeks ago, and always sign in in anonymous browser windows, but i understand that if these threats were severe, like a keylogger, these my habits are meaningless) 3) i sometimes connect my external hdd to make a backup of my personal data (mainly photos, videos and docs). I have done this several times before this episode so, my last question is: Should i be worried about my external hdd or data stored? (i don't know if this helps, but i never executed nothing on that device and i made a scan with Malwarebytes 3 after i finished my fight against the venturead.com thing) I'm sorry for this wall of text and for my english (not so good i know) and i hope u can give me good news about my preoccupation. PS: i forgot to say that the only real symptoms (during the infection period) i perceived were failed attempts (blocked by the browser and the adblock extension) from the browser to open popups/browser cards and, i suppose, too much ads on certain websites (too much considering that i had adblock). i don't know if i had some performance issues because this pc has 9 years old so is actually the normal behavior for me seeing lag spikes on videogames or difficulty in some tasks.
  6. Hi Can you please check the logs below for pup.optional.legacy that keeps appearing on my PC after repeated scans of ADW and MalwareBytes? I have run the tools many times and still the PUP re-appears after opening Chrome. FRST.txt Addition.txt
  7. Malwarebytes Premium Trial is constantly blocking a malicious website called coin-hive,com. Malwarebytes didn't detect any virus so i decided to use AdwCleaner. It detected PUP.Optional.Legacy, and it deleted it, but when i reboot the pc as adwcleaner asks me, malwarebytes continues blocking this website, and when i run AdwCleaner again, PUP.Optional.Legacy is there again. What do i do? 9. I have an older version of malwarebytes that I bought in 2012. I have the key and id. Recently I had to reinstall my old computer and reinstall the program. When I try to activate, it says error 403, the usage level has exceeded max volume and that I need to contact support. I've already submitted a help ticket last week but got no response. Please help.
