  1. HELP! Look at the attachment below! I was on the lookout for a file yesterday, but I could not find it. Then I remembered I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes some days ago. Now I don't know how to recover/retrieve/restore them back to their corresponding place. Is there anything I can do at this point? These files are essential!
  2. I have a had a problem on my pc for a while that in google chrome I kept having to click away ads, additional pages were opening and settings changed unwanted so I decided to scan my pc, first using avg but that found nothing, chrome cleanuptool didnt want to start so I ended up using malwarebytes. it quite quickly found like 10000 'dangerous' files and quarantined them. (These were like 1/4 'fraudtool' and 3/4 PUP) I am not really fantastic knowing what these do, and just decided to remove them all. When I did this malwarebytes said I had to restart my pc, so I did. When it started up again I didnt notice anything had changed and malwarebytes again said I had to restart, I had to restart like this for about 5 times when my pc suddenly gave me the message that there was a problem and that it was usually resolved by logging of and logging on again. When I did this, suddenly my taskbar was empty besides microsoft edge. When I checked my documents every single one had dissappeared, in my downloads same thing. A bunch of programs stayed, but seemingly random programs had dissappeared as well (discord, minecraft) now these are things I can easily install again. However many files that disappeared are really important schoolwork. And I can not imagine my pc removed all of those files in such a short time. Is there any way to restore these files? ~a desperate kid who really needs his files back
  3. Oh my gosh!!! I used Malewarebytes to deleted alot of files back on October 19th. I thought the files were all bad and I deleted them without a true understanding of what I was doing. Over the last several weeks, I have noticed that many of my file folders are empty and they used to be full of files, and today, I realized what happened....I accidentally deleted an important file I need. I can't believe I did this....it's my fault, but I really thought I was deleting viruses or something. Is there anyway to retrieve the files??? I think the files I deleted still show in my malewarebytes history....what should I do? Thanks in advance everyone! I need to really brush up on my technical skills, I know:(
  4. Hi all, My friends Mac was hacked recently and he believes that the ruby script he was emailed and later clicked on started the ball rolling and deleted some of his files and made his mac unusable. Is it possible to do this with a ruby script? Please let me know. Thanks. Ben
  5. Thanks in advance for the help. I received my Mom's computer this morning. In her words "my desktop is black, there are no buttons, and the pictures of my grandchildren are gone." My response "Mom, use my Fedex number and send it to me......" It appears that there is a really nasty virus on the computer that makes everything "disappear." No shortcuts, all desktop icons gone, no files, no "my documents" directory. all gone..... I downloaded and ran the most recent malwarebytes program this afternoon on the computer. It found and removed 6 threats. I attached the screen capture of the results. This seams to stabilize the computer and internet windows and "buy protection now" websites do not continuously pop up anymore. The main problem now is that I still cannot see any shortcuts, icons, my documents, files, etc. All appear to be hidden. Even though the icons and programs are missing from the desktop, startbar, and my documents, it appears they are still there. When I double-click a *.doc file, Microsoft Word opens, even though there appears to be no icon/start bar shortcut. I can also search and find *.jpg's that are in the 'my pictures' directory - just can't navigate to them. I understand I may have to reformat the drive to abolutely make sure its clean. But I would like to get the information (picctures, documents, files) off the computer before that. Thanks for any help DDS post below (not I did a find/replace on user name) .
