  1. Hello, I haven't actually been having any issues with my system but every now and then I like to run a Malwarebytes scan just to see if finds anything, usually it doesn't. Anyway after running it today it said it had found the following 4 registry PUP issues, all belonging to AnviSmartDefender: Registry Key: 3 PUP.Optional.AnviSmartDefender, HKU\S-1-5-21-4079224529-1850452133-1189164913-1001\SOFTWARE\MOZILLAPLUGINS\anvisoft.com/AdblockPlugin, No Action By User, 295, 840222, 1.0.27693, , ame, PUP.Optional.AnviSmartDefender, HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432NODE\GOOGLE\CHROME\EXTENSIONS\LHMIOFMIPCPMHGIHIECMPIEKCACIGPGB, No Action By User, 295, 840219, 1.0.27693, , ame, PUP.Optional.AnviSmartDefender, HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432NODE\ANVISOFT\Anvi Smart Defender, No Action By User, 295, 840212, 1.0.27693, , ame, Registry Value: 1 PUP.Optional.AnviSmartDefender, HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432NODE\GOOGLE\CHROME\EXTENSIONS\LHMIOFMIPCPMHGIHIECMPIEKCACIGPGB|PATH, No Action By User, 295, 840219, 1.0.27693, , ame, These have all been Quarantined. I'm just curious to know if anyone else knows anything about these and whether I should just delete them. It's strange because I thought Anvi Smart Defender was a legitimate anti virus software, and I also don't have Anvi Smart Defender installed on this PC and never have.   2. Hey i have recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and as a habit i have been always using USB Tethering to access Data! So i have encountered this problem on windows 8. The problem is that whenever i use USB Tethering or I turn on USB Tethering i actually get fast internet but after surfing for time or using access DATA in few seconds i get a exclamation mark on the Network Signal which actually says the name of the network and below there is a caption named LIMITED . My Mobile internet is turned on and the error is as said! I am frustrated because of this I am not able to download files from the internet and actually surf smoothly! So please help ma and if you need further details please reply me i will fill your needs! PS: I use wifi in my mobile and connect it through USB to my PC ! : I don't use WiFi because i don't have a WiFi adapter ! : I use my neighbor's WiFi so i don't have access to the LAN : I am a school boy and i love to CODE! : I have also tried updating t Remote NDIS driver by going to Device manager and it works to just enable the USB Tethering again but it gets same error even after using lot of data in seconds. : I also try removing the cable from my mobile and plugging it again and it works but after some usage of data it gets the same error.   3. I'm having issues with the sppsvc service, it says it consumes 99 of CPU... I just wiped clean my computer with the Windows Recovery setting and I still have the same problem... I also tried disabling the registry for the sppsvc and it's still there on Task Manager and it prevents me from moving my backup folder to my computer since it's so slow and says it'll take 14 hours or more.   4. It's November 2017 and I just started having the problem Grenpara had in February. I cannot keep real time web protection ON. I follow the FAQ instructions: turn off enable self protection and restart. I'm good till the next morning; then process repeats. Today MB turned off ransomware protection. I have been waiting for 3 days for a reply from customer service. I tried to live chat but they only help with installation. Why am I paying for MB when it keeps turning itself off and I cannot get help from the company?

(Not moaning about MBAM for once ) This must be an Invision board problem, because this isn't the only Invision forum I'm seeing this on, but I thought I'd ask here as this one has generally more computer-savvy readers! When I try viewing this forum (and other Invision ones) on my Windows 8.1 laptop, Internet Explorer 11, everything shows up just as HTML, i.e. Times New Roman(?) font, links in blue, any capital letters in place of avatars being blown up to a gigantic size, and is incredibly difficult to navigate, plus you can't post properly and have generally very limited functionality. At first I thought it was just down to a really poor broadband connection, but I've since tried it on some far more reliable wi-fi services with the same results. If anyone has found out what the problem is and how to fix it, please do tell! Thank you.
  6. For more than a week now malware protection in Malwarebytes 3.2.2 keeps turning itself off. When I try to change the setting back to On, it says "Starting..." and then after maybe a second or two switches back to Off (please see screenshot below). On at least one occasion, malware protection was on, but scan for rootkits was off, so apparently it's not just the one setting that changes. I've set the program to run as admin and that solved the issue for a while, but the malware protection setting has turned itself off multiple times since and I still have to reset it manually. Today I am unable to get it to turn back on. In searching for information about the problem, it appears that other people have had the same problem with earlier versions of the software, so presumably this is a known issue that has not yet been (successfully) addressed. Can someone please explain what is causing this and provide a solution that is permanent so that I don't have to fiddle with the settings every day and worry that my computer was infected while protection was turned off? I make a living with my computer, so it's important that it's protected properly. If relevant, the version is, premium edition, component package version 1.0.188, update package version is 1.0.2834. My updates are current as of Sept. 18, 10:09 Pacific time. I am running Windows 8.1. Thank you!
  7. Hi, I just restored to Original Factory Settings (windows 8) a 4 year old laptop. Ran all updates and upgraded to 8.1. Ran more updates, installed MS Office 2010 and activated Defender; so far so good even after multiple boot-ups. Installed CCleaner, DriverBooster and Malwarebytes (Premium free trial). Defender gets disabled straight away. Ran mb-check and mb-clean and re-installed MWB, yielding same result. Turned off MWB at the System Tray and Defender becomes available, but after launching MWB it gets disabled again. I have put much trust in this program until this latest version; I am also having problems with my main PC. I also own an HP i5 with Windows 10, which by the way, I am not updating yet. Any help will be very much appreciated.
  8. Hello Guys & Gals, I am wring today as I am so tired of sending support requests but they need to be sent to help the support staff and devs find and fix issues. Now with so many different computers and Windows os and others I understand some issues happen just like with games that are early access or betas. But I had thought to go back to 2 for awhile but the problem is i was told support for 2 is ending so I can't even go back to 2 for long before it ends. Now that said here are just a few issues and i see many others have same or similar issues. 1) Real time web protection keeps shutting off and i have to either end malwarebytes 3 processes or restart to be able to turn protection back on. Now I have been told its virus protection doing it yet I have done selective startup where virus protection does not start, and the issue happens. I have tried delays and changing malwarebytes 3 settings that support gives me and the issue still happens. I have several computers in the house (not all mine) some windows 8.1 and some Windows 7. They all now run Kaspersky on them and I have tons of exclusions but I know that's not the issue.. Now I was so sick of web protection today I uninstalled Kaspersky from my one system running Windows 8.1 using the Kaspersky clean tool. Well it did not take long and after a few restarts I waited to see what would happen and Malwarebytes stayed running fine for awhile and then web protection shut off yet again. So now I installed kaspersky again did some restarts and waited then I used revo-uninstaller to remove kaspersky. After some restarts i again waited to see what would happen and now it is the next day and real time web protection again shut off. Well I installed kaspersky again and thought I am ready to give up, but Malwarebytes is worth its money in gold so I will have to keep ending services or restarting to turn real time web protection on forever (which really sucks). Now I love malwarebytes and will keep using it but it is very frustrating. That is my first issue now to my second issue which I only just sent support a message about as i did not want them to have to troubleshoot multiple issues. So here is issue 2. 2) So malwarebytes 3 keeps finding a bunch of .sys files and others and telling me they are pups. And no matter what I do they keep being quarantined almost every day and then I have to un-quarantine them and do many restarts. I have tried checking them and hitting next and it quarantines them. I have gotten to the point where it asks if I want to ignore them and I say always or once and Malwarebytes still quarantines them. I tried adding exceptions for them but when i go to directory for exception from inside malwarebytes the files do not show up. Yet when i browse from outside malwarebytes I can see them. And I have the option selected to show hidden and system files. But inside malwarebytes when i browse only like 8 files show which makes no sense as there are hundreds of files in the directory. The files are in C:\windows\system32\drivers *and other various folders* Its funny as when I click always ignore option it adds them to the exclusion list and then tells me the files have been quarantined and to please restart my system. When the system restarts the files are in the exclusion list but they are also quarantined. If I un-quarantine them which I do, the next scan they are again quarantined even thou the are in exclusion list and the process repeats. The files are only on the windows 8.1 system and i need them so having this issue bugs me a tad. I have followed there help pages to the letter and yet this issue still happens. Now all that said i still trust malwarebytes 3 and the staff/support, but I have to constantly fight with the software since i installed version 3 . I moved 2 systems back to version 2 last week but I can't keep them there which means the issues they had with version 3 will again startup again when i switch back (I hope not). I am also running the latest version 3.0.6 which is the last version I was told to download. I have even tried multiple uninstalls using normal add remove programs and then makes sure all files and folder for Malwarebytes 3 are gone and doing a fresh install of it. I have also tried using Revo-uninstaller to remove malwarebytes 3 and all registry entries and files. I could turn off pup protection but that would be worse than the current issue. But none of these steps change any of the issues. This post is not to slam Malwarebytes as I still recommend it to family and friends as it is the best there is. And the support and devs are truly making a good product and provide the best support around by any company I have software from. This post is only letting others who are on the forum who like me trust Malwarebytes but are having problems know that they are not alone. It is also to give the support staff and dev's a great big Thank You for all the hard work they are doing and doing well. As I said with so many computers all having different software and hardware it does take awhile to find and fix issues. Give them the help they also need by sending logs and doing the steps they give as it helps them and us as Malwarebytes users get a better product in the long run. Thanks to the whole Malwarebytes Team. Your hard work and effort does not go unnoticed and you are appreciated. Gren

Like others, I've spent multiple days trying to resolve this, both on my own and with tech support from LabTech/ConnectWise, as we push Malwarebytes Endpoint Security installations from within the LabTech/ConnectWise Automate MSP system to systems we manage remotely. Coincidentally, we have only experienced this issue with Anti-Exploit, as Anti-Malware seems to install just fine in the absence of .NET 3.5. What's worse: after installing Anti-Exploit, we can uninstall .NET 3.5 and Anti-Exploit continues to run normally (as far as we can tell). It appears that .NET 3.5 is only necessary DURING THE INSTALLATION, not for the execution of the actual Malwarebytes software! WHY USE .NET 3.5 AS A PREREQUISITE FOR INSTALLATION ONLY? Certainly, there must be a programmatic way to do whatever the installer requires using a newer version of .NET!!! While I fully appreciate the respect for copyright laws, I also KNOW that in my 32+ years in this industry, I have installed PLENTY of software that is intelligent enough to determine that Microsoft .NET 3.5 is not installed and ask if the user would like to install it or abort the software installation process. Microsoft makes the .NET 3.5 runtime installer available to software companies for redistribution and provides methods to run its online installer from the web, so copyright infringement here is NOT a valid excuse for failing to have a detect-and-install mechanism in place. As a professional programmer, I also know that every decent, modern toolkit used for creating installation programs has the ability to check for prerequisites, then install them, make registry entries, run batch files, etc. if those prerequisites are not met on the target machines. There are some general guidelines for application developers in performing the correct steps to install .NET 3.5 on Win8.x or Win10.x machines here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/net-framework-4-5-is-default and here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443(v=VS.110).aspx. In the event the above steps cannot be executed for whatever reason on a particular computer (ex: no Internet access to download files), then the next-most-acceptable solution would be to provide more meaningful error messages and/or prompt the user to manually enable/install .NET 3.5 before gracefully exiting the Anti-Exploit installer. BOTTOM LINE: There are certainly more reasonable ways for the installation program to approach this issue than what is currently in place. However, for MSPs like myself who manage hundreds (or thousands) of computers remotely, this could easily be a deal-breaker that would send us to a competitor's product. Malwarebytes developers - PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP !!!
  10. Hi Guys Have tried everything to get rid of hao123 and it keeps coming back. I have tried everything that I would have used in the past to remove things like this, but I just can't seem to get rid of every bit of this pesky thing Help appreciated. I have full version of MBAM too, which daily advises me of leftover pieces of HAO that seem to reappear. I have removed Chrome for now as it kept changing the homepage (shortcut on desktop and taskbar was being appended) Regards, Moltenz.

For some reason a bunch of my posts were taken out of their respective topics and mushed into one kind of related topic, so I am reposting, with the specific questions that need to be addressed. Currently, any attempt to deploy to stock installs of Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 fail, whether the Malwarebytes management console is used, or the MSI package created using the console is deployed via other means (I have tried PDQ Deploy and Group Policy Software Installation). The root cause of this issue is a reliance on .NET 3.5, which is not activated by default on Windows 8+, and must be manually enabled on each machine you wish to deploy on. This is an issue for a number of reasons: There is no clear documentation, or indication provided in the installer, that the installer is not compatible with a base installation of Windows 8+ and that a manual change by the user is required. Instead, the installer tries (and fails) to install .NET 3.5, and provides no guidance. The installer fails without any indication of the source of the issue when silently deployed on a Win 8+ asset without .NET 3.5 Windows Feature being enabled (not a default setting) The console does not indicate the source of issues when failing to deploy to the affected OS's, leading the admin to pull their hair out, trying to figure out why the deployment is failing Automatic deployments based on variables such as OU, computer type, user, are not possible due to the installer failing due to the 3.5 requirement The installer does not include any way to enable the Windows Feature While it is possible to enable 3.5 using DISM, there is no ability to define a script to be run as part of the MSI that could enable the feature (you need to point to a source folder in order to use DISM) The only resolutions that I see at this point are as follows: Update the program to not rely on what is not a standard feature for 34% (and growing) of Windows PCs (https://analytics.usa.gov/) Update the installer to be able to enable the feature without user intervention At minimum, update the installer to alert the user that the feature must be manually enabled and provide helpful documentation as to how to enable if an incompatible OS is detected Provide a mechanism in the console to allow for the insertion of a custom command / script at the beginning of the installer for incompatible OS's that would allow us to enable the required feature The command would be "dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:netfx3 /all /Source:PLACE_LOCATION_OF_OS-SPECIFIC_SOURCE_FOLDER\sxs /limitaccess" You would have to allow the ability to define each source directory for the different OS'ss Provide clear documentation that managed deployments to unsupported OS's are not possible just using the stock generated installer, without additional modifications to the OS's Update the failure notices in the console, or at least place in the OS that is detected, so that we know that the deployment has failed due to an unsupported OS, and how we can modify the OS to accept the installation. TIP FOR THOSE WHO JUST NEED TO GET THIS DONE and can't wait for MalwareBytes to catch up with 34% of the PCs out there. PDQ Deploy is free and able to deploy out batch scripts to PCs defined in multiple ways (works great with PDQ inventory to identify Windows PCs that meet various criteria, such as no malwarebytes, windows 8+)
  12. I'm on Windows 8.1. Rarely does any malware show up in my scans. However, 3 "PUPS" showed up yesterday and, without as much as glancing at them, I just had MBAM delete them. I was asked to reboot and when I did that, all file associations (LNK) for my programs were gone. I could not open any application/program. However, I could see a few documents (PDF and Word mostly) on the desktop with the file associations intact. (I should have tried opening them but I did not. Yeah, I know, that was dumb). Anyway, I restored my PC to a previous/safe restore point (10 days ago) which all went fine. The file associations for the programs are restored and I can open them. However, my PC is horribly slow, takes forever to start, forever to open apps, and I cannot open Task Manager, I started and restarted a few times. I shut down and restarted a few times. Finally (providentially), the system came back albeit still on the slow side. I ran Webroot SecureAnywhere and nothing shows up. I ran MBAM again. The same three threats ("Potentially Unwanted Programs") showed up. Removing these caused all the problems mentioned above and I'm stuck now. DO I remove them or keep them? What or where exactly might be the problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Attached are two files - one is the log of previous run (before I deleted the threats) and the latest one (after restoring PC and running MBAM again).
  13. I created an account just to express my appreciation for the work that was done in making MBAE compatible with Kaspersky, in the face of their arrogant disinterest in the matter. I have Kaspersky 2016 installed and like others was unable to access the internet when kaspersky was running with MBAE, although this was not a problem with Kaspersky 2015. Since updating MBAE to the beta 1.08, I have experienced no problems at all. Everything works perfectly. I have this installed on a Windows 7 desktop and two Windows 8.1 laptops. Thank you so much for your devotion to your customer base!
  14. Greetings, I've recently run into trouble with my desktop installation of Windows 8.1. After setting the system to hibernate and going about my day, on my return the system auto opened into the System Recovery system. I thought this was odd, and just instructed it to load normally. The system loaded out of hibernation, but suddenly all icons began to vanish, and I could not open anything. A white flag representing the Action Center loaded in the taskbar, and informed me that critical system errors had occured. I tried to open the action center...and the action center hung. I then forceably restarted the system. The system reloaded, the Windows logo with the spinning circles appeared, and after the third spin a blue screen returned the error message: CRITICAL_SERVICE_FAILED . I tried to load into the recovery console with F8, but instead the system autoloaded into automated system recovery. Automated system recovery diagnosed the problem, then failed and loaded into the Automated System Repair options system. I tried to load up system restore points. The system did not recognize the existance of any System Restore Points. So...I was kind of perplexed at this point, and decided to look into using the System Refresh options. System Refresh required recovery media...which my comptuer did not ship with. So I scaddadled on over to Bestbuy, bought a 16GB flash drive, and set to work generating recovery media off of my 8.1 Laptop (Both systems are 64-bit, so I did not think there would be any compatability issues.). I ran the system through refresh...and the system failed out at 50%. A second attempted had the same result. I did some digging, and found out this problem can sometimes be remedied by navigating to the system in cmd, and changing the filenames of the System hive in X:\System32\config to System.001. So I did that, and ran refresh again. Refresh failed. I since have copied the hive named Software to an external drive, using the "copy" command in cmd, and am playing with the idea of following the instuctions listed here for editing registry hives: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/331ca249-9bf8-458c-ac08-e85ee3665849/windows-81-software-registry-hive-load-failed-on-windows-server-2012?forum=w8itprosecurity However, even when I tell the file explorer to show all hidden files, the file does not show up on the drive it was copied to. It does however show up in the command prmopt. Stranger still, the command prompt shows the file timestamp as having todays date, except the year is 2013. The file looks like the file that should be from the target directory. Any advice at this point would be exceedingly helpful. I've observed your suggested courses of action for running programs and checking things, but I cannot even load into safemode at this point, so I don't know how well thos suggestions will work.   16. I have mom, dad and daughter profiles on our Windows 8.1 machine. When I clicked on mom or dad, the spinning notification just kept spinning. The daughters account was the only that would open. When I open control panel and settings to try and update the only image on the page was the big gear used for the Settings. I put the Windows 8.1 disk in the CD/DVD drive to attempt auto play and a rebuild. When I rebooted Malware bytes opened, detected two files. I quarantined them then rebooted. The machine runs properly now. Thanks MB! You guys really saved the day! Thanks! Matt
  17. Hi everyone, I need a little help/advice. I got my mom a new laptop from Newegg.com. It had some McAfee installed. I deleted via the control panel. Downloaded MS Security Essentials & MBAM (I need to purchase the premium for her computer). MBAM installed fine but when I tried to install MS Security Essentials I had a pop up telling me something about MS Security Essentials was part of Windows Defender. Can anyone tell me if I need to purchase & install an anti-virus or is one already installed. Thanks
  18. OS: Windows 8.1, 64 bit Browser: Opera AV: Avast I scanned before making a purchase and found my Alarm Clock app is suddenly registering as a PUP. It contained Win32.Bundlore (an adware, as far as I can figure), so I've quarantined the app, restarted, and am scanning with Avast again.   19. hi there, i am attempting to successfully install MBAM ( this is install number 46 for all of my client machines and this is the very first install on a windows 8.1 computer. all subscriptions are paid, though i initially install the free 30 day trial to then enter in the activation codes after that first month. therefore the trouble i am experiencing is with the free version. i understand that windows 8.1 has some serious issues with MBAM for some users and none whatsoever for other users. i am of the former category and i wish to get into the latter as i really don't have the time to offer free troubleshooting for billion dollar corporations. ie. microsoft. i cannot open the program now that it has been installed and configured from that first installation (in windows safe mode). i cannot uninstall it through the usual means i cannot run the clean removal program i either get the following error message when opening the removal (mbam-clean- or attempt to run the initial setup file (mbam-setup- The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000279). Click OK to close the application. attempting to open the MBAM software results in a short hourglass animation, following by nothing except some hard drive (SSD) activity via the LED indicator light. i have left it sit and attempt to open for 21 minutes to no avail. attempting to open the MBAM software within windows safe mode produces the same (0xc0000279) error message. please let me know what information you need from me to better narrow down this issue. cheers, randall
  20. Alright guys, so I have a few questions about Malwarebytes. I've used this program for a very long time and I am now starting to question if it is really compatible with Windows 8.1. I sometimes, while running a scan, click the little icon on the taskbar, and then click back and.... Bye bye Malwarebytes! It completely quits just like that. Even when I hit the minimize button, it does the same thing. But it seems the scan continues running? It's so weird. And after running Malwarebytes today, this is what I got on the system tray: Okay. REALLY weird. But further looking into this... The culprit was none other than... Norton Security Suite? What??! Now this is very strange for Norton to do this. I've run Norton on every PC I've owned, and this is ... really weird. Also, when I press the "Show Desktop" button, Mbam disappears again. So is Mbam slowly becoming a ghost or is there something off with the 8.1 compatability?

I thought I would contact the reliable people here who have helped me in the past.   22. (Sorry about my bad English, I'm a Finn) Hi! This is my first post, and sadly it is about a negative topic... My OS is Windows 8.1. I was just about to do a search on Google when I noticed a small white head-like icon on the taskbar in the lower-right corner of the screen (or whatever the thing is called where you can see whether you are connected to the internet or not, and battery charge, etc.). When I took my mouse over it, it disappeared. Now I'm scared that I have some kind of spyware on my computer, copying all my confidential files to someone. Does such spyware/malware exist which creates a small head-like icon into the taskbar-thingy? I'm currently running a scan with the latest Malwarebytes Anti-malware and Comodo Internet Security Free Edition. I'm also worried whether it is safe to be connected to the internet or not...

Other considerations when setting up a new computer? Password changes, how frequently? Email accounts Website and forum logins Your MS Outlook login Your computer password Which of the passwords are really critical in terms of security? Do I really need an extremely secure password for logging into my home computer? Or can I make it simple and easy? I've eliminated the LogMeIn app that my old employer's IT guy used to access my system. Cheers!
  25. I am using Windows 8.1, I can browse the Internet, I can download files. I cannot get any programs to update. I have ran multiple scans, including the Malwarebytes Camelion, and can't find anything. Please advise.
