  1. Hello, I have received help here before on about five different computers. Today, I have my Mom's (she is elderly) laptop. EVERYTHING is slow. It takes several minutes when turning on the laptop before it's ready to use. Internet pages load very slowly. Task manager takes quite a while to load. Couldn't get the screenshot (snip) app to open at all. Computer used minimal. Mom has had problems with her HP printer working when it wants to work for a couple of months maybe. She basically uses for Outlook email, Facebook, general search/surfing, Solitaire, Word and Excel docs, Acrobat pdf viewer, view/file pictures. I didn't attempt to fix anything...wanted to make sure I didn't cause even more issues than the laptop currently has. Attached are Malwarebytes report, AdwCleaner report, FRST and Addition reports. Appreciate your assistance to get Mom's computer running again. Thank you, Julie Addition 230114.txt FRST 230114.txt AdwCleaner[S06] 230114.txt Malwarebytes 230114b.txt
  2. The laptop is having an issue that when I press the power button only the light turns on and after a 30 seconds it turns off. Neither the screen nor the fan work. Last night it was working fine, it was until this evening that I tried turn it on, The battery works I tried it on a different laptop of the same type, I have tried putting a different RAM but its the same. Here are the details of the laptop: Product Name: Windows 10 Home Single Language System Type: 64 bit Current Build: 14393 Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU N2820 @ 2.13GHz Total physical RAM: 1944.59 MB Drive c: (Windows) (Total:445.43 GB) (Free:346.69 GB) NTFS Drive d: (RECOVERY) (Total:19.11 GB) (Free:1.91 GB) NTFS ==>[system with boot components (obtained from drive)]
  3. Ok to start my friend game me their laptop so I can do a check up on it since last time I did was about 8 months ago. I know a bit more about computers than my friend does so this is something I do from time to time, I have 3 things installed in their laptop that I installed the first time I did a check up on it, they are programs I use normally on my laptop, CCleaner clean it up a bit, Avast Antivirus and Malwarebytes. Basically those are the 3 programs I use on their laptop. Today I ran into something I didn't know what to do. This are the things I did before I noticed the issues. I ran the CCleaner and after it finished I began running Malwarebytes, It had been running for 4 hours when I decided to look at the progress when I noticed that the start menu didn't open, I minimized Malwarebytes and that's when the screen went black after it came back the window was minimized and everything normal but when I try to maximize the window again it went black screen again and when back Malwarebytes was closed. then the issues began as I was trying to figure out what was wrong, a message pop up about insufficient memory, but I checked and the Hard drive is 500GB and it only has been used about 100GB, after trying to open the start menu the screen went black again and I left it but after sometime it didn't came back to normal so I did a hard reboot, I turn it on again and it began an automatic operation of analyzing and fixing (C:). Windows began again but still has some issues, all the programs take a long time to respond and so far I haven't had the black screen nor the insufficient memory message but I want some help before I do anything else.
  4. It all started when I wanted to do a custom scan and added scan for root kits on my Windows 7 hp laptop. After that I reset my computer to delete a few Trojans. When it turned back on, it said Windows 7 was not genuine, I lost internet connection (wireless and Ethernet), and the program doesn't open so I can't check if it accidentally deleted an important Windows file. It can still turn on but it notify me that I might be a victim of software counterfeit. What should I do and did I corrupt a file or did a virus do something?

  7. I got redirected to a suspected dodgey version of a bitcoin site (real site is .com this one identified itself as .cloudnet) Since then (few hours later) no apps would connect to the internet. Chrome would say could not connect to proxy, I don't use a proxy. Tor would connect though but that's because it uses its own proxy, not the system one. USB memory sticks have been acting weird too. I've been getting the 'this USB has a problem click to fix' error and an I/O error due to an invalid system string or application request. The laptop is pretty high spec and used to boot up in a flash and be very responsive. Now for the last day or so it's booting up slower, apps are slower and general response is sluggish. I've ran malware bytes on it in safe mode and nothing has come up. Would should I do next as I can get most of my data off. It's an HP laptop running Windows 8 Standard Edition x64. Cheers
  8. Okay, have a HP with windows 8 64 bit, my computer is only about 4 months old. I could not get windows defender to turn on. I went without it for a bit but had Norton firewall with other spyware. So last week I used windows refresh (it's the one where it keeps your files but gets rid of everything else) and it has been working so slow since. I turn it on ans disk is running at 100% for the first 10 minutes and then it goes down but it still runs slow. I still cant get defender to turn on. It just wont let me when I click it to turn it on? So I called Microsoft and they pulled up my command prompt and told me my system is corrupted (I call BS on time) they turned the command prompt text red, I have seen that by scammers. does red text mean anything in command prompt? So I really have no idea what to do? Should I run the windows refresh again? I am lost and am fearing that this computer is now going to break and I don't have the money to go get a new one only after 5 months. Please help.
  9. Hi there A few days ago my Synaptics touchpad started to malfunction and my computer was really laggy.. My main concern was that the touchpad was not doing what it was supposed to; when scrolling it would not release the scroll bar when I let go of the button, it was not selecting the things I clicked on etc.. The left button does not seem to function at all & touchpad seems to behave strangely, most of the time (it won't let me tap to click even though I selected that option in my touchpad settings etc).. I changed the touchpad settings to left-handed which means I can at least browse the net and use Photoshop to a certain degree although it is difficult and I've learnt a hell of a lot of new shortcuts since! Anyway.. It's been like this for about a week now and then today.... I unplugged the charger and the machine went dead even though it had been charging for plenty of time... Plugged it back in checked the lead connection etc not that.... Now it just says 8% available & charging constantly, it obviously is NOT charging and even after being plugged in for hours still turns off every time I unplug it!?!? My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6-6b50sa which, after reading about it online, seems to have a heapload of issues and one of the most common ones seems to be overheating.. Do you guys think that might be what the problem is?? It just seems like my machine is falling apart piece by piece!!! :'( I started looking for solutions in the "general pc help forum" and after my dds logs were looked at was told to start a new post here.. (You can find the original post http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=132832 there's a bit more detail and a lot more rambling there)... Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, you will never know how much I appreciate it! xxx Attach2.txt DDS1.txt
  10. I believe MBAM scanner has detected a false positive. I don't have a zip file capacity but I will try to upload the file here. If it is not uploaded I have failed, in which case please advise. (I have just tried and failed to upload the file as hpqscnvw.exe, so I renamed it hpqscnvw.txt, and have uploaded it. I hope this is acceptable.) My MBAM log of the scan is this: Windows XP Service Pack 3 x86 NTFS Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 Joe :: JOE [administrator] 13/09/2013 21:17:02 MBAM-log-2013-09-14 (14-01-37).txt Scan type: Full scan (C:\|) Scan options enabled: Memory | Startup | Registry | File System | Heuristics/Extra | Heuristics/Shuriken | PUP | PUM Scan options disabled: P2P Objects scanned: 395512 Time elapsed: 6 hour(s), 54 minute(s), 25 second(s) Memory Processes Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Folders Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Files Detected: 1 C:\Progs\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqscnvw.exe (Trojan.Bredolab) -> No action taken. (end) When I install the HP software I put in in a folder I named "Progs" rather than "Program Files". I tend to do this with all applications that I install where I am given a choice. 11. Hello, I have an HP Pavillion Elite HPE running Windows 8. Have not had many problems with the machine, but started getting a couple of malware warnings in Chrome while browsing today and decided to run something since it had been a while. Malwarebytes quick scan found 2 infected files which were deleted, restarted as prompted. Since that restart the computer will no longer boot, it hangs on the HP splash screen and I am unable to access my BIOS settings by hitting F10 or anything else. Not sure if it is my HD or if something happened to the registry, HD is a WD Green (1 TB) and was working fine before the restart. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, have had success with Malwarebytes on other more deeply infected machines and did not expect this outcome on my own.
  12. Hardware: HP Pavilion dv5 Toshiba 500 GB External Drive Software: Windows 7 Home Premium OS Microsoft Security Essentials Malwarebytes Antimalware Pro I’ll try to make this as short as possible. About 3 weeks ago I had to reformat my computer because of a virus. Was running Symantec Endpoint Protection along with MSE (know not to do that now of course) and Spybot Search and Destroy. Symantec picked up the adware virus, but it wasn’t until trying Malwarebytes free (after scanning with Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, Microsoft Security Scanner, and Trend Micro House Call) that I found out I had 7 trojan proxies along with the adware. I clicked delete to delete them all, was then sent to start up repair, and after backing up data I reformatted the hard drive. Did the various updates for MSE, MB (now Pro), and Windows after reinstallation, and everything seemed to run ok. MB did pick up two Trojan.Zbot viruses (currently in quarantine). Within that time I put the files from my external drive back onto the computer (scanned them with both AV and nothing came up). After about a week or so though, the computer started running much slower, and MSE kept turning off (did that a lot before when I had the viruses). Ran scans with both MB and MSE but nothing was picked up. Sometimes it works fine after a while of being on, but even as I typed this my power settings were changed from HP recommended to high performance without me doing so, and I had to type this in Microsoft Word because Internet Explorer 9 couldn’t recover the forums page. I update MSE and MB daily. I also followed the steps for compatibility issues with MSE and MB. So is there an answer as to why my computer is running slow and glitchy? I hope it’s not another virus. Thanks in advance for the feedback.
  13. Hello everyone--- My friend relayed me to this site...I have been trying for 3 months now to get rid of this virus I contracted on my laptop. My laptop is fairly new so it's not worth getting a new one, however, i'm in college and don't have the $200 to fork up to bring to Staples to have them wipe out my laptop. I believe I contracted the Win7 virus back in Nov....i've done some reasearch on this virus and have tried mulitiple ways to try to get rid of it; i tried adding antivirus software (norton, sophos, and microsoft security essentials...nothing worked.) These are the symptoms I get: when I put my computer in hibernation/sleep mode it automatically shuts down. When I search something in google and click on the site I want to be on, I then get directed to a phony site when I click on the site I want to be on. Then constantly I'll see msgs like "out of memory at line: 7,8. 11,etc i've done the research for thsi virus multiple times, i've also tried over the last 2-3 months to install any antivirus that i can get my hands on for free (ive tried norton, sophos, microsoft security essentials...none of them will stay on my laptop) last but not least, after my laptop randomly shuts down, when I restart it, the computer goes into "system repair" mode...I checked the notes before relogging on and it said the C drive is corrupt. One more thing, sometimes I get funny messages that pop up like "msg from winnicade" I'll check on here from time to time, but if anyone has any advice please emaIl me (no spam) at: I really need this laptop for school and it will be a real nusicance if this stays infected! THanks to all for reading this have a blessed day!
