  1. Rootkit-revealer, a small scanner for rootkits, has detected traces of possible infection (it doesn't remove) that are in (*documents & settings* where my MBAM log file problems seem to originate. I am not sure if the traces it discovered are merely pieces of once-dangerous malware; I use Avast 6, and three free spyware scanners, and have seen nothing amiss for years, but I am no expert. Thank you all for reading this, and for the kind help already offered.
  2. MBAM discovered a affiliate.downloader, a serious attacker which can lead to remote use activity. It was removed, but I do not know how long it had been resident. Is it possible that this threat compromised MBAM's permission rights...?
  3. I wanted to purchase the paid version of MBAM; as its only a 1-time pay-out, but with this problem being so fundamental, I can't, of course. It's pretty frustrating knowing actions have been taken, that may affect the rest of my machine & not being aware of what exactly those actions are, or the exact nature, even, of the threat.
  4. Mystery; I reset the permissions twice & no joy! Oh, well, thanks for trying, I can't see on the other thread whether the fix worked for the other gentleman either... But thanks for trying...
  5. Thank you so much for the help, I'm going to look at your link right now.
  6. Hello all, I cannot read my Log files; in MBAM free, or the trial version. When I try to open the log files, the following message comes up; EXACTLY as follows: C:/documents and settings/all users/application data/malwarebytes/malwarebytes anti-malware/logs/protection log- 2011-11-12.txt. Access is Denied. I run WINXP Pro SP2, am the only user; with full Admin. privileges, no other users ever, I live alone. This may be some Admin. issue, but no other problems with any other malware; or any other program I've EVER run in years, just this MBAM problem. Thank You all so much; if someone could aid me with a problem no amount of tinkering with XP has yet worked, thanks again!
