  1. silly suggestion time how about, instead of estimating the time remaining, you show the total number of objects to be scanned and how many have be scanned so far? eg: objects scanned: 111,111 total objects to be scanned: 999,999 (and maybe show it as % completed/remaining?) that way, at least users would have an idea of how much of the scan is left (without the program having to provide a estimate of time remaining) apologies if this has been already suggested - I'm new to the forums
  2. I've used SlimDrivers driverupdate.net on a couple of desktop PC's to update drivers. (Free and probably safe) Apart from one driver update killing 'net access (easily fixed by just doing a system restore and ignoring that update from then on), it seems to have done a good job. Just to be paranoid, I install only one driver update at a time, then run the SlimDrivers scan for updates again. I don't know if that will help, but hopefully it won't make things worse. Good luck
  3. ps: yes, I have been looking this up on the 'net, but it's not obvious which products are good and easy to use
  4. my apologies if this is in the wrong form (or if I shouldn't be asking this here at all) I occasionally get asked to help someone who is dangerously close to the "Do you still have the box it came in?" level of computer use. (off-topic: HAH! I knew that story was too unbelievable to be made up :-p) Recently some of the questions have been about spam email and it appears they have been very close to clicking on ones that would be Very Bad The problem (to me) is their email provider doesn't do a good job of scanning for spam/phishing 100% of the time combined with the fact that this person is still using Outlook Express (XP SP3) and I won't be able to get them to change (especially not getting a new email account). I was wondering if anyone could recommend a (free) antispam product for Outlook Express that would: (a) be better than nothing and more importantly (b) is easy (VERY easy) for a low level of computer knowledge user to understand/use. in advance, thanks for any replies
  5. instead, you use the start (ignition) key to turn off engines which is just so different, isn't it?
