  1. Thanks. I took my laptop to town where my usb modem can connect to the weak 3g signal. (It's a strong 3g signal where I live but I can't connect to it anymore). I downloaded the mbam after cleaning out the old one as you instructed, reinstalled mbam. I took the computer home and the connectivity issue has not changed. I wonder why I got such a perfect connection when that tech support guy told me to disable all my start up programs. There were only a few startup programs because this is a fresh installation of win 7. At least I got mbam back and updated. Thanks.
  2. I have a Smart Bro usb broadband modem, in the Philippines, and Malwarebytes. There is usually a 3g signal where I live and it worked well for a while, but more than a month ago I could no longer connect even when there was a strong signal, or I could connect for only a minute and then it would stop, couldn't even get email or open websites. I ended up using a GPRS signal for three weeks but I'm fed up, it's slower than dial up. When I went to the wireless center the technician suggested I get rid of some startup programs but it didn't help so I upgraded my Vista to Win 7 and got a bigger hard drive. Nothing helped and that's when I started using GPRS out of desparation. Today I called tech support because I had to restart big downloads so many times and wait for hours, and half the sites I go to won't load. I said I want my 3G back and we tried the usual things but nothing worked. Then he told me to go to my startup programs in msconfig and disable all. There weren't many things there since it's a fresh installation of Win 7 but I did what he said and suddenly I got the 3G downloading big files very quickly, up to 3000 mbps. I manually turned on Malwarebytes and it continued to function right. But I noticed when I double clicked the Mbam icon that I got a message that a new version of Mbam had been downloaded and did I want to install it. I told the tech guy he'd saved my life and hung up, and later after a little more testing of the connection's stability I went ahead and installed the new version of Mbam, however it's odd that this was the first I'd heard of it because when it started I was told that the database was 15 days out of date. So it must have been downloaded 15 days ago and I was not informed, now I have to update 15 days's worth. I tried to start my internet again and no more connection. Back to the same thing, there is a good strong signal detected but it can't connect. So again I'm stuck with a slow GPRS signal and my virus database has to be updated because the program I'd been using and updating daily was replaced. So Mbam really messed me up because I will have to either spend many hours trying to get updates to download over the slow signal, or just stop updating altogether. This is a clean installation of Win 7 and now I'm afraid the performance is going to start going downhill with people telling me to disable things and make changes, when maybe they don't know what they are talking about. I just read on this forum that what I did (disable all startup programs) was probably wrong, but why would it have suddenly freed up my connectivity to 3G? Is there any way that Mbam could be interfering with my 3G signal? It's strong but I can't connect, whereas GPRS is easy to connect to. Is there a virus that interferes with connectivity? I confess I have not been running regular scans because it bogs down the computer and I am always low on patience because of this connection being so slow. The isp tech support man told me today there is no bandwidth cap and they have no way of detecting how much I download and no way to block me as a way of punishing bandwidth hogging. I am full of misinformation from weeks of searching for answers. The modem worked fine when I got it and as I say it worked beautifully just this morning right after I did that disable startup thing then after upgrading to the new version of Mbam it went dead again. I think there has to be a connection but I don't know where to start. Also I can't find a place in Mbam where I can tell it to trust or distrust certain sites. THanks and I hope something can be done short of settling for GPRS. It takes hours just to download one day's update from Mbam, using the GPRS signal. 15 days out of date is going to be a problem.
