  1. Yesterday, my wife and I were browsing a website when I noticed a brief pop-up concerning a warning about a potentially dangerous file on the site, followed quickly by our computer forcefully rebooting so I'm definitely leaning towards this being malware related, not a hard drive issue. From that point on, the machine boots to the "startup repair" process, no matter what normal or advanced startup option I select (with the exception of the advanced startup option "repair your computer"), the boot process is filtered through the "startup repair options" which does one of two things. 1. Churns forever, never resolving 2. Completes, indicating the issue can't be fixed System restores and using the last known "good" configuration both fail. I also attempted to replace the registry contents with the version in the RegBack directory with no luck. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of this potentially being malware related and if so, what options might be available for recovery other than a full system recovery? I was unable to follow the suggested forum "basic steps" since I currently can't access my desktop. Thanks for your help and time! System: Windows 7 - 64 bit Asus Laptop
