  1. I ended up doing a reinstall of windows(wiped out hard drive). People said I must have been infected but I did several scans by several different companies and every single one said I had nothing. My avira picked up nothing as well..I think the update has something in it that for some people renders it useless. No idea what but like I said I was fine until I allowed that update.
  2. this is what happened to me on Monday. After 13 cleans and reinstalls I got pretty ticked off, did a reformat of my hardrive and than installed it...worked great til this morning, than again after the update got an error warning. Came here, got some help and so far I seem to be ok. Hopefully though the next update I won't have the issue again.
  3. ok, that loaded differently than the other 13 times I have done this since Monday. it never asked if I wanted the trial or to register, today it did. I will take that as a good sign that something went right this week lol. It seems to be running now just fine. Someone said to change the exe file so that those vicious programs won't recognize mb and prevent scans and it from opening and such. is this a good idea? I can file the folder that mb is in but cannot find any exe file to change....if this is a good idea would you mind telling me how to go about it and what the exe file should look like. I do see the mb icons (2 of them, one doesn't seem to be in english though) and am just not seeing an exe attached to the end. Thanks!!
  4. yes did all that, except for the clean b/c it was installed from the mb disk after a complete reformatting of windows, so there was nothing to clean since it hadn't been yet installed since the reformat.
  5. The other day I posted about mn not opening after an update. After talking to many people, being told i had an infection etc etc even though every scan I did by anything I could find, found nothing. I decided it was going to be much easier to reinstall xp, which went off without a hitch. Got mb loaded again and it worked great untill.....again it did an update this morning and once again it refuses to run, the error message is saying "an error has occured, please report this error code to our support team. MBAM_error_expanding_variables (0,453) I know I am not infected but am unsure what to do with this error, it was fine this morning, and only started after I did the update it told me to do. Am running xp media, version 2002, sp 3 TYIA
  6. I have installed and ran other programs like mb this afternoon and came up clean on all 3 and even when I was able to use mb (before the update) it also found nothing.....I will try these steps again and hope and pray
  7. Should also have I have dl/ mb in safe mode, not safe mode, with my avira on, with my avira disabled.....same as the update I have tried in all modes. I tried to disable TSS in devices (plug and play) but I'm not seeing it disable....
  8. no...after that update the program honestly doesn't do anything, anywhere in any mode lol....
  9. none, it just doesn't open. It basically doesn't do anything
  10. Did what you suggested and it won't open, didn't even have the chance to d/ any updates this time though.....I am so frustrated.
  11. It just updated again and it has to be the update causing the issue as It will no longer open or run. GRRRR I lost my hard drive a few months ago to something and I am paranoid to not have mb now.
  12. Yesterday my MB wouldn't open. SO I uninstalled, cleanly and reinstalled..worked great yesterday and this morning. Now when my sched'd scan time came and went, I went to manually start it. Again it wouldn't open, so repeated yesterday's treatment and it's back on again and scanning normally. The only thing I can find in common with both days was an update that was done, when I clicked to manually scan, a message came up and said it will now close and install update, I clicked ok. I'm not certain that it failed yesterday after an update but I know 100% for certain that today it did. I'm not sure why this update is causing issues, but I would really like to know the fix, if its the update than if I do not update I won't be protected very well...is there something I need to be doing in the settings or on my pc to stop this from happening? either stop the update or the issue, preferably the issue. Would appreciate any help with this. Thank you very much
