  1. Thanks for this suggestion. I need something like this in my toolbox
  2. Hello p8315, I'm not quite sure I understand your problem. You should be happy that your CPU is running at 0-2% load with some small spikes. That's a good thing, it means your CPU isn't being used much at all.
  3. You're positive Internet Explorer is running online and not offline? What version of MalwareBytes' are you running? What type of internet connection do you have? Has the update process ever worked for you?
  4. Bobc, Linux is inherently more secure and less likely to be affected by viruses even if they exist on the computer. So with that regard, I think MBAM should probably stay on the Windows platform and concentrate on being the best it can be since Windows is the most popularly targeted O/S platform.
  5. Thanks for the link exile... I had a vague understanding of heuristics and it's a bit more clear now.
  6. After a little research on my phone (not much, just googled it), I found the description for a zero day threat...
  7. Got this directly from Fixes for common problems and error codes I would make sure you are connected to the internet and that Internet Explorer is not working offline. If it is, it will say it in the titlebar of IE. To turn it off, click on the File menu and uncheck "Work offline". Edit: After some additional reading of that Error code thread, I found this as well: I hope this helps
  8. This is good, useful information. Thanks nossirah. @exile, could you elaborate on 0 day threats?
  9. I think he's exhausted all of his options if I read the original post correctly... Excuse me if I'm wrong
  10. I'm not sure what those 3 folders are but it would help to get some more information from you like the brand of the flash drive and what did you use to format it?
  11. Don't know if I could do that Not that I'm on 24/7 but I still like to surf a little or learn something and the most popular avenue for that right now is the Internet.. For me, at least
  12. I can 2nd what GT wrote because where I work, the SC Dept of Education, we are still running SP2 and I haven't heard anything that remotely sounded like we were going to deploy SP3 in the foreseeable future. SP3 breaks things like Checkpoint EPS, an A/V, A/S, and firewall client rolled into one.
  13. These guys here are awesome. I've been using MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware for some time now (probably over a year) and it just keeps getting better. It is always the first tool I use to detect malware in general. What a great bunch of guys that work hard to help the world stay safe from the junk floating around on the internet and other media.
  14. Wow, this is pretty interesting. I wonder what I'm missing :x
  15. This is the 2nd time I've seen the information that right click file scan does not enable heuristics... Is this bit of information anywhere? Perhaps in the help file? If it isn't anywhere public, can we get in a sticky on the forums or in the help file please? I think that is very valuable information to know. Just my two cents. Keith
  16. @GT500, Good information on the heuristics not being performed when right clicking & scanning. I did not know that. I'll have to change my routine a little bit when scanning files and folders.
  17. Welcome to the forums blakcherry329! As of right now, I do not believe MBAM can be run from a USB thumb drive. It does appear to be in development though. Please refer to this post below: Portable Version??? Take care, Keith
  18. I agree with GT and exile360. Although I use MVPHost, it's the same type of protection. I couple that with using Firefox, Avira Antivir, and MBAM real-time protection at home. I find them both very light on resources and extremely effective.
  19. Understandable... My router is definitely not a small business router but a high end SOHO router. Either way, I don't think P2P is related to why my desktop computer which is wired to the router and has the paid version of MBAM installed suffers from a significant delay (5 seconds) when trying to access certain websites or while pinging certain IPs.
  20. I guess no one is suffering from the same problems? (5 sec delay)
  21. Yeah, I could probably do that and be relatively fine. Another side effect I have noticed since the new IP protection has been implemented is 5 second delays when accessing certain websites or pinging certain IPs. That needs to become faster in future releases.. I've tested this theory vs without IP protection on and it's definitely related.
  22. Another thought, my girlfriend's older son likes to use Limewire/Frostwire against my objection when I'm not around. Is it possible that MBAM sees IPs across the whole LAN? (ie, I'm on 192.168.3.31, he's on 192.168.3.33) I doubt this is the case, but just wondering as I have no other explanation for my computer contacting that chinese IP
  23. Yes, thank you... I was able to get that via traceroute which is why I said China in my original post. Very true by looking at the logs. Hence why I requested MBAM to record ports numbers as well as the IP in the future. Unfortunately, this is a XP Pro box that it happened on so I am out of luck there... By the way, my scan with Kaspersky came back clean last night. Edit for typo
  24. Hey all, It's been awhile. Sorry! I've been lurking though. Anyway, I love the idea of this new IP protection module in 1.40. I have a question though. I was looking at the logs and found that MBAM blocked an IP today from China [218.15.142.41] when I wasnt even here. Steam, firefox, opera, and mirc were running but I wouldn't think any one of them would be contacting something in china. Since the logs don't record the port (maybe in the future?), is there a way I can trace back which program tried to communicate with this IP? I ran a scan with MBAM and it came back clean. Scanning with Kaspersky Online right now. swagger
