  1. Sorry daledoc1 - didn't see your post - still asleep ! Did you reboot after install ? Can you start it buy clicking Start, All Programs, or clicking on a desktop Icon ? (Actually when I began to compose reply, there were no replies at that moment)
  2. After manually enabling protection, the gui just sat there with the Red msg that protection was disabled. I had to close MBAM & bring it back up from the system tray to see the green msg that it was re-ennabled. A refresh of the gui would be nice.
  3. And that explains why there is no portable version, and probably won't be. LOL - That was a question !
  4. I believe he had a dual boot system to be able to install on the INTERNAL scdy drive. assuming he did install & run, what happens ?
  5. No, This is what I mean. He had MBAM installed on C: Drive. Somehow, he became so infected, MBAM, nor Rkill, nor any other Antivirus would run. So he downloaded and Installed MBAM again on the Slave drive, and ran a scan, which came up with no results. Did the scan running from the slave drive actually scan the C: Drive ? I thought MBAM did not have a portable version, which I think is what this would be. I know if you run a full scan you can select drives.
  6. Someone who is infected ran MBAM from a slave drive. Wouldn't that cause MBAM to scan the slave drive & not the infected primary drive ? I thought MBAM had to be installed on the drive the drivers were on, although in his case they would both be on the primary & secondary.
  7. @Darksider: Got any opinions About Avast 6.0 WEBREP ? - I didn't know Mcafee Site Advisor was crap, and have used it for quite awhile now, thought it has done a good job. They are both in my browser; Suggest removing them and install WOT ?
  8. You should have a Spam button, like forward, delete etc to report it. The other option is to click on "full headers" of the email, note the domain name, add it to the spam block list, (unless it is your ISP's domain) and also report it as spam to that domain (Not to your ISP)
  9. Don't know that you would have to remove other Antivirus programs. Disabling them before installing MBAM should suffice, afterwards setting mutual exclusions in them should work.
  10. Just a thought.....Possibly the GUI is not updated to reflect the off line update ?
  11. WoW64 is a subsystem of the Windows operating system that is capable of running 32-bit applications and is included on all 64-bit versions of Windows—including Windows 2000 Limited Edition, Windows XP Professional x64...
  12. 1PW: Very Very good Post. - I had to answer NO to five questions, and consider myself safe on the WEB ! Guess I'm 2/3 there.
  13. PROBLEM SOLVED ! Not sure which of the following cured the Problem, but under the IDE\Atap\Atapi Controller there were duplicate entries for Primary, plus Secondary IDE channels, and Standard Dual channel PCI IDE Controller. Someone suggested that wasn't correct, and to delete & reboot and new drivers would be installed. I opted to only uninstall the duplicate entries for each. At the IDE/Atap/Atapi controller level, I did a scan for hardware changes which added ATA Storage Controller. After reboot the dupe primary & scdy were regenerated (I assume for the CD/RW device). The duplicate Standard Dual channel PCI IDE Controller disappeared. A new Ultra ATA Storage controller was added. Drives are functioning ok now. Thanks for your responses
  14. Thank you for responding ! I have no emulators installed at all. To be sure, the only hardware is the KB, mouse, Monitor, Network Card, The backup software (Acronis) I have used for the past 5 years, on XP Home Edition with no problems whatsoever. So, Windows sucks with respect to Driver updates ? I can believe that, as I always see "Microsoft 2001" when I look in device manager ! Someone else asked about jumper settings; they are set to cable select on the drive in question. I will check the device model number on WEB for possible driver updates, and now that I have a large backup file on the drive, going to try copying it, renaming it etc to see what happens. Can you recommend a driver update program for checking all drivers, which is not one of those I always find that give you false positives, to get you to buy their product ? Your input is very much appreciated. Thanks, again....Ken
  15. No, because the secondary drives are not DELL.... Maxtor & WD. The drivers are updated, at least that is what Windows says. And they work fine in XP Home on another Dell machine Besides DELL is so screwed up, I have been there before, with no solutions to problems, ergo the other forum posts. I put the Service Tag number in, & they show me a Slim Line ! So much for DELL !
  16. Dell Optiplex GSX270 1gb RAM, 2.4gHz Processor, XP/PRO Original Problem: I just installed a Maxtor 6L04032 40 GB secondary IDE Hard Drive to use for backup. Formatted it to NTFS. The backup Software (Acronis) estimated 1 hour 30 min or so to backup 14 Gig. This is way too long, and should only take 15 minutes, or less. (15 minutes on my other Dell 1.7 gHz machine. (Dell Dimension 4400) When I looked at process explorer, the following resource was using 85 to 95% CPU. Interrupts Hardware Interrupts & DPC - Showing 0k private and 0k working set. Tried to update driver, but said I had the most recent one. Any help is much appreciated. Update: Backed up files on DELL Dimension 4400 XP Home - No excessive Interrupts. Moved the backup disk to omniplex - Ran backup and Get High Interrupt %. Did this with 2 different drive, same results.
  17. Yes, I see that now; but I wouldn't think of clicking on that forum, as it pertains to site suggestions & Posts. So, problem solved for next time !
  18. Comments & Suggestions says it is for site, not product.
  19. Fair enough ! But you could make it more immediately available because obviously not a lot of people go to about, help, support.
  20. Why not add the support email address as well as the forums links on the about TAB, or maybe a NEW Tab called Support. Do you know how many times whoever watches your FB page has to tell someone to contact, blah blah blah. Not to mention all the other people who like to help others out !
  21. Then maybe they should not try to be a firewall also. Stick to what they know - Malware
  22. You might try something like Hostsman (FREE) - Last count, blocks over 173K sites, including AD sites if you wish.
  23. Pretty sure Zonealarm firewall (Free Version) runs under W2K, There is a drop down menu on the log file to show Blocks for firewall, and PROGRAMS connecting outgoing..
