I definitely second this suggestion.
-
Taken from the first pinned topic of this forum:
In the future once MBARW comes out of beta we will roll the technology into our consumer and corporate products so that you won't have to deal with multiple separate clients.
-
At last! I did manage to activate MBARW. I had to tell KIS 2016 to ignore this app, no matter what it does. Only then was it possible to activate the licence. Looking forward to BETA 2 now, hoping that MBARW can then be started minimized without the splash screen telling me that MBARW is running.
-
Same here. I'm wondering what "License Activation" is meant here. What license? Hm... I don't have a license, nor am I able to install the MBRAW service on my machine. Uninstalled.
-
Hi! After installing MBAWR, the GUI tells me that Anti-Ransom Protection is disabled. Maybe it's got something to do with a known issue:
Known Issues
...
- Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware service will not be installed when upgrading from Windows 8 to 10....
I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, so maybe this is the reason why MBAWR doesn't work here (Win 10 32-bit).
I uninstalled this program because I cannot use it on my computer. What a pity. Let's hope this can be fixed with one of the next builds.
-
Yep, there is no version 2.3.125.0 of MBAM. If you have such a version, I would not install it - it might be some kind of fake or something malicious that you certainly don't want to use. You should always download your programs from the official sites to avoid unwanted stuff.
-
Is this supposed to be good news or bad news? I really don't know. Whenever I read about such acquistions, good ol' BOClean comes to mind. Hm...

There are too many Chrome/Chromium-based browsers out there, many of which are used by just a few people (including UC browser). It would not be possible to add them all to the default protection of MBAE. If you want MBAE to protect this browser, you have to manually add the browser exe to this list of shielded apps (Premium users only).
-
Adding PDF-XChange Viewer to the "official" list would also be nice. However, I don't think there is a difference between out-of-the-box protection and manually adding it to the list of shields.
I'm still wondering, however, why email programs such as Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail are not part of the "official" list. Is there a particular reason why email programs need to be manually added to the list of shields? It would also be nice if there was a profile for email programs. The profile "other" is what I'm currently using for Windows Live Mail.

I have always kept all the MBAE features enabled. I can only guess, Tinstaafl. Maybe there have been problems with RET-ROP that aren't "fine-tuned" yet. Apart from the "automatic" upgrade to build 1045, which wasn't "automatic" in my case (see above), I have never had any problems with MBAE. I'm sure Pedro can shed some light on this issue. Pedro?

Just rebooted my computer again and the MBAE icon is clearly visible in systray.
Anyway, MBAE seems to be running smoothly now after last night's upgrade hiccup.
-
Just for the record, I had the very same problem. I also had to uninstall and reinstall MBAE to fix this problem. Now that I have booted my machine again, the MBAE icon is no longer to be seen in systray, even though it should be there according to my Windows settings. I sometimes had this problem with earlier versions as well. Might be a Windows 10-specific problem. Don't know. Well, at least I can find MBAE in task manager.

Thanks for your reply, Pedro. Much appreciated.

Nope, the first words of the sentence are just leading up to the acutal suggestion. Anyway, if suggestions cannot be posted here, maybe a moderator can move it to a more appropriate place (wherever that might be). Thanks.
-
Adding e-mail programs to the list of MBAE default protection is meant to be a suggestion, so I thought posting it under "Comments and Suggestions" was the right place for suggestions. And no, it's not meant to be a "support" question, it's just a suggestion.
-
Is there a reason why e-mail programs such as Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail are not included in the list of shielded applications? Maybe the most important e-mail applications should be added to this list.
Regarding PDF viewers, it would be nice if PDF-XChange Viewer could be added to the list of shielded applications. This PDF viewer is used by quite a lot of people.
Thanks you.

Should I perhaps follow the directions posted in here: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/171634-anti-exploit-not-started-after-upgrade-to-windows-10/
I have never had any problems with MBAE. The previous build, 1044, just worked fine here. It's the first time I got this error message.
UPDATE: Following the directions mentioned above seems to have resoved the problem. Everything's back to normal. Let's hope this problem will not resurface; if it does, I will tell you. Thanks for the upgrade, Pedro.

I did get the new version (I think) but now MBAE no longer starts when I boot my computer. All I get is the following message:
Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Protection is not started. (sad but true)
The Anti-Exploit process will be terminated. (How can it be terminated when it could not even be started? Hm...)
-
I'm not quite sure I understand your problem. Are you talking about MBAM, MBAE or both? As far as MBAE is concerned, yes, it should be active to protect your computer from exploits. Regarding MBAM, it depends on whether you have the free version or the Premium version. MBAM Free can be used as an on-demand scanner only; MBAM Premium also provides real-time protection, which means that it is always active to protect your computer from malware. Hope this helps.
-
I'm currently using a similar combo: KIS + MBAM Pro + MBAE Pro. You should be fully covered with the combo you mentioned in your fist post, but please keep in mind that there is no "best" protection, and there is no 100% protection, either.
I don't know what the future will bring, but at present it is very unlikely that they will ever release an AV. If they did, I would probably buy it.
EDIT: daledoc1 typed faster than I did.

I would also like to have a lifetime license, but when it comes to MBAE vs EMET, I prefer a yearly subscription to MBAE because I think this program offers much better protection than EMET, and it's easier to use as well. Just my two cents.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that MBAE support is much better than Microsoft's non-existent support for EMET.

Thank you very much for your detailed response to my question, Pedro. Good to know that MBAE and MBAM also know how to deal with the latest ransomware attacks.

Taken from the Frequently Asked Questions of this forum:
Will MBAE stop rogue antiviruses and ransomware?
There are two types of attacks when it comes to rogue antivirus and ransomware campaigns. In the first type of attack, using social engineering to fool users, a webpage simulating an antivirus scan is shown and the user is prompted to download and install the solution to the problem (which is the malicious or rogue antivirus). In the second, more advanced and dangerous type of attack, the user is lured into visiting a malicious webpage which exploits one or multiple vulnerabilities to automatically and transparently run the rogue antivirus or ransomware on the target system without any user interaction. In the first type of attack we recommend running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium as it provides the best and most timely protection against ransomware. The second type of attack will be blocked by MBAE as it does rely on exploiting software vulnerabilities to run automatically and transparently without user interaction.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Do MBAM Premium and MBAE Premium also stop the latest ransomware attacks or should I use additional software that has been specifically designed to protect computers from ransomware? Just asking because I don't want to install/use more programs than is really necessary. Thanks for your help in advance. BTW, I also use anti-virus software, but no anti-ransomware app.
PS: If there is a more appropriate forum here for this topic, please move my post there. Thank you.
Suggestion: Change Notification Tray Icon when Protection Stopped
in Anti-Ransomware Beta

Does this mean that the suggestion posted above has been implemented in the latest BETA build? (Still waiting for the upgrade prompt ... ... ...)
