I do keep MBAM disabled and the computer don t see the external hard drive. but I cannot test if the antivirus sees it because the laptop gets frozen/hung. I did test the external hard drive with the same anti virus (eset smart security 3.0.642.0) on my desktop and it is clean

Hello I have installed anti malware on my laptop which is runing on windows XP (updated). when I plug in my external hard drive through usb, this one is not seen by the laptop. then the computer gets hung. putting on or off the active protection does not change the problem and if I start the laptop in the safe mode, then I can see the external hard drive. Please help me. than you so much PS : I am not a computer expert, so be kind enough to give me simple answers.
