  1. I would not say the phrase 'public viewing' is common. It's certainly not a phrase I would use every day.
  2. Please do the following to see if it corrects the problem: Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Restart your computer very important Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates. Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
  3. I think that word is supposed to be viewing, not viwing. Public viewing just means that it's available for the public to see it. Here's a WordReference thread about it: http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=1002182 I hope this helps.

  6. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware WILL scan AND clean infected files for FREE. If the program is asking you for money it is NOT Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It is a 'rogue' rip-off program. 7. No problem, Amazon. We are glad to help. Sometimes it does take more than one disk check to sort out any corruption problems. However, as the computer is about four years old, it's possible that the hard drive may be starting to fail. It may go on for years yet. But, then again, it may not. At this stage, I think it would be a good idea if you backed up any important files in case the hard drive does suddenly pack up completely.
  8. This 'disappearing icons' thing is a very strange problem. I tried the SSDP/UPnP fix on my XP system and it just did not work at all. Although it does say that the SSDP/UPnP fix does work for a lot of people here: http://winhlp.com/node/16 Anyway, congrats to John for getting his volume icon back permamently. And also congrats to YoKenny1 for suggesting that John used that method before resorting to the more drastic dll patch method.
  9. If the disk check fixes the problem completely, you won't lose any of your files/upgrades etc. But if the problem is a failing hard drive, some of your files may already be corrupted beyond repair. But we won't know until after the disk check. The outcome we are looking for is that, after the disk check, you computer will boot up fine again. If you can, watch what happens when the disk check is running and make a note if it says anything about errors or 'bad sectors', etc.
  10. LOL. Yes my avatar 'bugs' quite a few people. If you are just running a disk check, it doesn't matter if the Service Pack is not the same on the disk as it is on your computer.
  11. If you think the problem is not malware related, the first thing I would try is a full sector disk check. If you want to try this, please follow the instructions under "Running Checkdisk from the Windows CD" on this web page: http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=5097 NOTE: On Dell computers F12 usually brings up the Boot Menu.
  12. No problem, Gerry. Sorry we couldn't help you in this particular section of the forum.
  13. It's not your fault. I see exactly what you mean. But, for safety's sake, the Admins here say that tools which are required to fix problems like yours should only be run under expert guidance in the Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs forum.
  14. You have an exe file 'hijack' (which, as you suspected, is registry related) and you probably have some other malware related problems as well. But we are not allowed to advise a user to run the tools required to fix this problem in the PC Help forum. We can only work on malware in the Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs forum, not in the PC Help forum or the other general forums. malwarebytes.org has a team of experts who will help you fix any remaining malware problems on your system. 15. OK John. You can always use the Log Off/Log In workaround if you want the sound icon to reappear.
  16. Hi Amazon, What is the original disk you have and what exactly happens when you try to boot from it?
  17. Excellent news, John. Maybe I was a bit hasty in patching the dll on my buggy XP system. It works fine again now, but perhaps I didn't actually need to do it if one of the reg fixes might have worked instead.
  18. Nice one, John. Hopefully it will stay there and not do a disappearing act again.

  20. OK, I'll let exile sort you out with a new driver then. If you need more info about the audio on you computer, you can download PC Wizard from here: http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php and click on the Multimedia button.
  21. Sometimes other security software conflicts with Malwarebytes realtime protection and internet access, so you need to exclude Malwarebytes' files from being scanned by the security software. If you like, I can help you to do it. What security software are you running? Antivirus, firewall, etc?
  22. I'm wondering if it could be something to do with the speakers/headphones default settings. I'm not sure if this will work, but it may be worth a try: First plug in your headphones. If you have a speaker icon in your System Tray, right click on it then select 'Playback Devices'. Change the default setting to headphones and see if the headphones are working. It should default back to speakers when you unplug the headphones, if it's working properly. If it doesn't work properly, and you then can't get any sound out of the speakers, change the default setting back to speakers again. Best of luck.
