  1. Here too - Firefox 58.0.2 get message that a "Plugin container for Firefox has stopped working." Multiple crashes. It's the latest update to anti-exploit that installed 3-8-2018. Before that installed, all worked well. I uninstalled anti-exploit and Firefox no longer crashes.
  2. I have found recently that uninstalling DEAMON Tools Pro solved numerous problems I was having on my Win 7 x64 Ultimate machine, including errors with MBAM crashing when trying to scan or update. It seems a component of DTP, which is a disk emulator program, called sptd (what it is: "SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD)...Basically SPTD is similar to other access layers used by other programs who provide access to storage devices but it has a lot more features that make this interface unique" the description from the publisher of sptd) when active causes the problems. When I disable sptd, no problems with MBAM anymore. I haven't quite figured out how to remove the sptd entry from my registry (keep getting errors when I try with regedit) but by disabling it from starting, the problems are gone. The key in my Win 7 PC registry is at: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\service\sptd\Cfg By setting the START value to 4, one can disable it from starting. The 'defogger' program can also disable it (it disables all disk emulation programs). Maybe this will help some of the folks having update issues? Hope so.
  3. Thank you for your detailed reply. Yes, manually putting the address in IE9 would cause the crash and the details link expanded to say the DEP problem. I wondered if perhaps the malwarebytes page was trying to execute some kind of script that was triggering DEP - sometimes the page would show and then go to the crash/error message. I had put the site in my trusted list but to no avail. It did seem a bit suspicious to me too, but I have scanned my PC using all the recommended proceedures (DDS, GMER) but have never found any malware, and I scan religiously with Malwarebytes and Avast, etc., but I may try that again and submit it to the removal dept just in case there is something hiding in there I missed. I even do a boot scan periodically and scan in both full Windows and protected modes. Why am I paranoid? My insurance agent negligently put all my info (and 2000 other lawyers' info) out on the 'net in 2007 because an employee was using kaza with full access enabled on the office network, an unprotected file with all the necessary data was on his PC, and ID theives got a hold of it, stole money from my bank accounts, credit cards, etc., they even filed federal tax retun in my name and got a refund! I got all my money back, but it was quite a mess. Thank goodness for the identity theft monitor I was using which alerted me the day it started or it could have been worse. Today there were a slew of MS updates, so it slowed me down in putting the Malwarebytes programs in DEP exception box and trying again. I was only able to put the "MBAM.exe" program in the DEP exceptions box, all the other attempts generated a message that they could not be run without DEP. I also replaced my IE hosts file with a new one from MVPS (www.mvps.org)in case that was corrupted. Whatever, something seems to have worked because I am now here using IE9, so maybe the problem is resolved. But thanks for your consideration. If anyone else encounters the problem I had, I hope they will post! Cheers.
  4. Thank you for your prompt reply. 1) I have the same problem even when DEP is set for only Windows programs and services. But perhaps you mean I should not have DEP enabled at all? I haven't tried that for obvious reasons, that is, for security. 2) I can connect to www.malewarebytes.org using Firefox without any problems, but when I try using IE9, I continue to get the error. I changed my default browser to Firefox and so far, the Malwarebytes updates seem to work without incident. 3) I am going to try putting all the Malwarebytes related programs into the DEP exceptions box since all my scans with other security programs find nothing. I will post a reply on how (3) works - perhaps this is the problem others with update errors are having now and in the past?
  5. I have periodically had the error where Malwarebytes is closed by Win 7 when attempting to update the signatures. I tried putting all the MBAM related programs in the FireWall as "allowed," and so forth from reading the posts and suggestions here at this forum, but I still occasionally got that error on the first attempt to update the signatures usually after starting up the PC in the morning. (Win 7 Ultimate x64, Avast Free version, MBAM free version) I would usually have to try several times to get the update. Sometimes, even first trying a scan, either Quick or Full, would cause the same error where Windows closed the program because it had stopped working. No solution has ever been found by Windows to date. Now, with the IE9 "upgrade" installed recently, I have noticed the same error as before, but also another one: selecting the "about" tab and then the "www.malwarebytes.org" button opens IE9 but then usually causes an error: "Internet Explorer has stopped working." In the details it says: "Windows Data Execution Prevention detected an add-on trying to use system memory incorrectly. This can be caused by a malfunction or a malicious add-on." However, I am running IE9 with NO add-ons enabled at all. I might add that when I first upgraded to IE9, I would get the same error when opening IE9 independently until I disabled all add-ons. I have my DEP settings so that all programs, not just not just "essential Windows" programs and services, are checked for violations of memory by DEP. My processor (i7) supports hardware-based DEP. I hesitate to add MBAM in the DEP exceptions panel in case it has been compromised somehow. Thanks.
  6. While in SafeMode, I ran the WIN troubleshooter to check my startup programs and let it fix issues it found, then rebooted in normal mode, now the update and scanner of MBAM v1.50.1.1100 work fine. Seems the troubleshooter disabled the startup of a couple things related to my HP scanner, Adobe, etc. Not sure which one was the culprit. When I get a chance I'll try to narrow it down. No malware, just regular mass-produced software mayhem!
  7. OK, since all that happened between the update and this morning was a shut down and start up, I figure there must be a conflict with something that loads/start during a normal start up - so I booted up in Safe Mode (using F8 key) and in SafeMode the MBAM program updates and scans fine - found no malware and neither does Avast! So it seems to me the problem must be some of the drivers or programs/services loaded in normal boot of my system conflicting with MBAM, possibly the NVIDIA GTX-295 graphics board software/drivers - I have seen issues with them and other software before (esp. Win 7 power options/sleep mode). I'll have to try some additional boots with various things disabled and see if I can pin it down. My WIN 7 Ult x64 Laptop (different graphics board) does not have the MBAM problems with the new version 1.50.1.1100 in a normal boot - it is running pretty much identical software.
  8. I updated to v 1.50.1.1100 the other day, and at frist, the update problem many of us have been having was fixed - got database 5376 on 12/21/2010 with no problem. This morning, however, the update problem is worse, now it does not even begin the update and show any progress, it simply stop working and Windows has to close the program. Win 7 Ult x64, also running Avast! 5.0.677 (free version). I made no changes to the PC overnight, it was off. Also the scanner causes the same problem - program stops working windows closes it.

  10. First thing in the morning, when I start Malwarebytes and then go to update it, the programs will usually crash "stop working" and I have to close it, then restart it, and try update again, which always works the second time. This has only occurred with v 1.50 of Malwarebytes. I changed nothing on my Win 7 Ultimate x64 pc other than upgrading to the v1.50. Never happened with the previous versions of Malwarebytes. Judging from the number of others reporting the problem with v1.50 and updating, rest assured it is NOT you or your computer or your connection - odds are against it - must be the Malwarebytes v1.50 program. If it were the server, your communications path, etc., well, you'd be having problem with other Internet access too. And really, why would a program crash if it were just a temporary communications problem? Well, guess what? One time I forgot to plug back in my network cable to my PC and tried to update Malwarebytes with no Internet connection at all - yes, I got an error message from Malwarebytes, but the program did not stop working, no message from Windows. Eventually they will realize that there is some bad code in the v1.50 and fix it. These things take time, programs are now long and complicated, so be patient. Of course, if you are using the PAID version, forget being patient and call someone on the phone, eh? Hopefully, you won't get an outsourced person - if you do, call sales. Hang in there.
  11. For no apparent reason, the Malwarebytes red-square with an M in it icon disappeared from my start menu, taskbar, desktop, etc., even when I looked at the mbam program file in the Program Files (x86)-Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware directory. Have no clue why, but other folks seem to have icon issues from time to time with other programs on Win 7 - I haven't though. I solved the issue partially by right-clicking the generic-looking mbam program shortcut, selecting "Change Icon" button on the General tab, then using the "browse" selection button to browse to the C:\Program Files(x86)\Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware directory and select the "mbamgui" file. Then 3 icons appeared in the dialog window and by selecting the usual looking red-square with and M icon, and clicking "ok" and then "apply", the normal Malwarebytes icon was back This method worked on the desktop shortcut, start menu shortcut, etc. However, I haven't figured out how to change the mbam.exe program file (in the C:\Program Files... directory) icon from the generic to the red square with an M icon yet. In case you're wondering, yes, I tried uninstalling, and using mbam-clean and reinstalling, but still have the generic icon for the mbam.exe file in the C:\... directory. This was on my brand new Toshiba Qosmio laptop, Win 7 Ultimate x64, C drive is an SSD. Malwarebytes v 1.50 Also have Avast! anti-virus running, but not much else, this is a brand new (2 days old) machine. No malware/viruses/etc. detected. Other folks have had MSWord icons do the same thing suddenly for no apparent reason, under Win 7 from the blogs I've read. I also have a Win 7 Ultimate x64 desktop that doesn't have the icon issue with Malwarebytes, or any other programs either. However, I have had a few other glitches with the new version (v 1.50) of Malwarebytes, e.g., first attempt to update database in morning causes a crash of the program (so many others report this same problem here on the forum, I know it's not my end - probably a server glitch in the path to the update), but then restarting the program and running update again always gets through. Had the program crash when just starting a full scan one time as well recently. The previous versions of Malwarebytes that I used never had any of these issues, none at all other than a false positive now and then which got corrected quickly by the company.
