  1. Hi DFB, I have removed ComboFix and OTL as you said. I have set Windows updates to automatic, and I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials and updating the definitions almost daily. I think I will switch to Firefox as my browser as you suggested. I think everything is fine now. Thanks a lot for all your help. - Charles
  2. Ok, that one worked. I updated Firefox, Java RE, and Adobe Reader.
  3. Ok, but just a quick note, the filename I am seeing for Java is "jre-7u25-windows-x64.exe", rather than 7u3 as you stated. Also, the adobe reader installation failed with this message: "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch." The file I downloaded for Acrobat Reader is AdbeRdrUpd11003_MUI.exe

  5. Yep malwarebytes and BF3 are working just fine and the control panel is normal. Phew! Thanks for helping get my system straight.
  6. Hello, I appreciate all the help. I seem to have resolved the issues simply by installing and updating internet explorer. I had tried this before in the process and it failed, but it appears maybe I needed to clean/fix something in my system before I could install/update it again. I stayed up really late last night reading on forums about people with similar issues. Apparently it can happen with different versions of IE. I thought it might have to do with IE because of the missing internet options, and the ieframe.dll, iernonce.dll errors and the default browser confusion in BF3. I really don't like IE. I always avoid the updates in windows update regarding IE and try to keep it uninstalled. I didn't realize its components can be such an integral part of the system. I kept going to windows update and somehow it allowed me install IE8, and then IE9. However, every time I try to install IE10, either through the setup file or through Windows update, the installation fails. But after installing IE9 and rebooting, all my issues seem to have been resolved!
  7. Yes I am logged in at JT. Here is a screenshot of the User Accounts window:
  8. Yeah, I tried repair install, re-install, nothing I tried has worked. I think it may have to do with detecting my default browser. I have read on the EA forums about someone with a problem similar to mine: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/8119813.page that says you can set your default browsers under "Internet Options". But when I search for that I have no internet options! It's like parts of my windows have just been deactivated. See attached screenshot.
  9. Yeah, that's the only app that has given me that specific error. Still get errors trying to run BF3 and some other annoying things happening too. Like in windows explorer, a new window is always opened for every folder I navigate into, despite having the option in Folder Options checked to open each folder in the same window.
  10. Yes I am still getting this error >< Gah. I am clueless at this point.

  16. Ok, well at least my system is clean. But still getting all these .dll errors. Gah...I ran fixdamage, uninstalled MBAM, rebooted, then reinstalled MBAM, and it still crashes with the same error. Run-time error 339 ieframe.dll is missing. Also I noticed I can close the ComboFix popup that happens every time I reboot by pressing ctrl-c. One time when I did that it asked "Terminate batch operation? Y/N" In the window heading it doesn't say ComboFix it says CF13945 or something like that. Also noticed GeForce Experience crashes everytime I try to run it.
  17. Hi, after rebooting after OTL run fix, I still got that there was a problem starting iernonce.dll, the module could not be found. 21. Sorry, the internet is working so I guess I don't need fix damage? However, I still get the "iernonce.dll" error every time I reboot.
  22. Ok I pressed the power button once and immediately all programs were closed including combofix. I clicked cancel and now I am in normal mode without the combofix problems. Shall I run fix damage now?
